Firewire Mac intefaces

Would appreciate very much anyone who could recommend (or stear me away from) a Mac firewire interface for audio and MIDI.
Compatable with Logic and Traction. And common effects plug-ins.
Requirements are: mate with +4 gear, at least 2 good mic pre-amps.

Anyone have any suggestions here?

I have the 2882+DSP, and this is an excellent option. Wonderful sounding, buss powered, 8 usuable mic amps, built in DSP, amazing routing, etc.

Yes ... indeed. This interface looks wonderful. But, unfortunately, is about twice what I can spend.
Gotta get it under $500... and still have balanced +4 line ins and outs and at least 2 good mic pre-amps with xlr plugs. Must also be compatible with my son's software... and be very very staable with OS 10X.

Does it exist?

I saw a 2882 sans DSP go for $775 on ebay last week. If you can stretch your money or wait, I'd really get this one.

You'll have to beat me to it though, because I'm looking as well. Right now I have a Digi001 but the second I see a 2882 for around that price again I'm going to jump on it and sell the 001. From what I've read and seen (and heard), nothing beats the metric halo as an interface.

i've been using an mbox with logic 7 on my powerbook g4 12" and imac g4 with good results. i've also been looking at the presonus firepod for more simultaneous inputs...

Used MOTU 828 MK1.

It's very useful, and you can get 'em for under 300 bucks.

I've got the MIO 2882+dsp too.

Great customer service. Awesome product that really DOES deliver in the sound department.

The +dsp "plugs" are top notch as well.

MOTU 828 mkII are also affordable. MBox is cool but you can only do 2 tracks at once. M-Audio Duo is cheaper still and decent pres, but same restrictions as the MBox. What about the Presonous Firepod?

The other four are 1/4" plugs.

Warning: while these pres are good/great for loud sources, they get fairly noisy fairly quickly. (E.g., you can't record an acoustic with a 57. It's fine, however, with a 4033 or some such.)

The ULN-2 was created because the initial group of buyers was pretty upset at this (ULN stands for ultra-low noise). Those of us who bought the 2882 early on were given a sweet deal on the ULN-2 (not to brag or anything).

just how acceptable are the converters on the 828 mk1? Beter than___? Not as good as ____? I am trying to go up from an mbox as well. I have a few stanalone pres so not as concerned there. Mostly just need the 8 channels of +4 i/o via F-wire. Also looking at the firepod etc... Cant afford the metric halo... blah,blah,blah....

One of my clients just got a MOTU 896 for his studio, and I was helping him set it up the other day. We were both really impressed with the sound of it. He was upgrading from a Digi 001, and everything coming off the computer immediately sounded way better. Also did a little recording using the internal pre's and they seemed quite nice and transparent.

The eight pres on the 2882 are 4 XLR and 4 1/4 inch. All the outs are 1/4 inch too.

I like mine, but the pres do not have a ton of gain.
