Re: Strangest Studio Techniques U Ever Used?
funny you should talk about water........i recorded myself singing under water.
got a big bowl of water and a towel.got a 57 and put it inside a condom.put mic under water, put head under water.sang....it sounds pretty cool, you can hear the words fairly well.
i have also used this to record guitars.take one of those little marshall/vox/twin/smokey amps and put them in a zip lock baggie, put the mic in a condom...off you go.you need someone else to hold the amp under and the mic.it can be cool if they move the mic around a little bit...
the record this is on will be out later in the year...it doesn't have a name yet,as it's something i do when i'm bored...

Okay...
A U47 with a coffee can over it. Sounded like you'd expect, hollow. Had a pretty good effect for what we were after, hollow-ness.
There was a laundry chute at my old studio that went from one of the tracking rooms to the second floor and I put a mic at the top of the chute. We actually recorded EVERYTHING track by track just using that mic. We were trying to achieve and eerie Today Is The Day bonus track. The song was called 'Dead Baby Room' and when you heard it you'd understand why.
I've also put a boundary mic in my laundry dryer to see what it would sound like for drums... not very good. Sounded like the coffee can experiment but worse.
There was a band that came in and they had a song called 'In My Room' that related to being in your room while your roommates are keeping you up all night. I had the idea to have Kelley sing the chorus' through an extra 6 foot long exhaust vent to make it sound like she was screaming through the heating duct to a living room downstairs (like in a normal house). It turned out great. Had just the right sound we were after. Like hearing your sister through the heating duct upstairs.
I'm sure there is many more things I've done in the past but that's all I can recall at this moment.

pretty much anything involving nudity... and peanut butter... creamy, of course.
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

2 Tbl. peanut butter (creamy!)
2 packets Taco Bell hot sauce.
mix well
enjoy.

Yup. When it's 13 days until payday, and you've already spent all your money on gear and weed, you gotta stick with the staples - peanut butter, mac and cheese, psgetti ...

Ever since I started sneaking my own beer into bars, it's become a much smaller expense.chocolatechickenpotpie wrote:
