Cool Beatles Pic....

Post by tonewoods » Mon Jan 17, 2005 1:43 pm

Hi all....

When I was a kid I used to sit and stare at this pic for hours, tracing all the cables to see who was playing through what amp, checking out the back-up guitars, and wondering who the opening act was who was using the Dual Showman and piano...

Cool pic, huh?

Recording content: This was a radio and television broadcast, thus the KM54s (?) in front of the Vox AC100s...

I only recently got the the audio from this show, but the video is out there too...
It's a cool listen. Setlist:

Paris setlist 6/20/65

1. Twist & shout
2. She's a woman
3. Cant buy me love
4. I'm a loser
5. I wanna be your man
6. A hard days night
7. Babys in black
8. Rock 'n Roll music
9. Everybody's trying to be my baby
10. I feel fine
11. Ticket to ride
12. Long tall Sally

Thought you folks might want to check this pic out. It was sure fun running into it again...

John seems to have a 545 to sing into.

I love that George's backup guitar is just lying on its back behind the amps. I doubt you'd see that on a club stage or arena these days...

cool stuff!
what's up with the acoustic all the way on the left?
I've never seen them play acoustic live...but perhaps because it's a tv
broadcast

also, its interesting to note the amp that is inline with the bass drum... could this be the bass amp? I've heard that lining up the bass drum and bass cab matches the phase of the two and maximized the punch of bass/kick.

what do you think?

Besides it being an awesome beatles picsture, I think it's cool just to see how everything is laid out and the calbles all tangles up. Cause it happens to the best of us up there!

That's really a cool picture, WOW.

There's some interesting stuff there - one thing, it seems like Paul was on the end most of the time, with George between him and John - but here, Paul's in the middle (and I bet that's his rig next to Ringo too). I was thinking about that while watching the Anthology recently, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, that guitar on the floor looks like a Gretsch 6120 - there's a picture I've seen somewhere of Lennon playing one, but it's not the normal double cutaway Gretsch models that Harrison was famous for playing.

Thanks for sharing!

"what's up with the acoustic all the way on the left?"

I think that's a backup guitar, but I sure wouldn't want to plug that into that AC100 'cause it would feedback in an awful big hurry...
There's no sign of an acoustic on the recording, BTW...

Notice the double mic'ing on each of the amps....
One for the house and one for the recording, me thinks...

Referencing the "Beatle Chronicles", this was the first gig after a long (for them) gigging hiatus, and they're indeed pretty sloppy on both sets...
But sloppy in a good way...

No guitar stands, no monitors, no guitar tuners....
Things have come a long way, no?

Actually the amp run down is Johns AC-100 set back to Ringos left, George's AC-100 to the immediate right of the kit and Pauls bass amp (an AC-100 head with a AC-60 cab) right next to that. The Fender amp I can't explain other than it may have been placed as a ready to go back-up (which they did some of the time when they had their AC30s) for George or it may have been used for one of the guitars for a particular song in the set. However that's just speculation.

John played an acoustic live, I think it was the NME show in '64 (?) He played it on "I Feel Fine."

Also, that's either a Bandmaster or a Showman as indicated earlier in the thread. A Bassman looks different from above, the head is not as long. A Showman would make sense as it's 100 watts and compares to the Vox AC-100s in power. A Bandmaster is ~40-45 watts. Although I believe that the Showman or Bandmaster either belonged to the "house" or another act.
