There is/was a studio around here called "Rockhaus",needless to say they were German and into progressive rock as the name implies.

Insta-Fame is in Portland/Milwaukie. If you know Ben Lund then you'll get his sense of humor and it all is clear!
I always wonder where Dead Aunt Thelmas came from here. That's a weird name for a studio owned by the Oregon Catholic Press!

Re: Names NOT to Use for Your STUDIO
There was a placed in Austin TX named the Hit Shack. It was a good studio, but people seemed to always move the "S" in Shack to the first word.

There were some guys in Denver trying to start up a rap studio called 'Another Day Another Dollar Studios'. Not sure if they made it.

I believe I already mentioned once "Love Juice Labs" in Riverside, CA. They have so many bands in every month I started calling htem the fast-food-studio. I guess they do good stuff though.

Re: Names NOT to Use for Your STUDIO
Well, Chicago Trax was one of the more famous places in town...their client list includes R. Kelly, Ministry, Smashing Pumpkins, Liz Phair, Johnny Winter and a few more. The silly name didn't seem to hurt them none.TapeOpLarry wrote:I was looking at the "Help Me Name My Studio" thread and thought it would be cool to see what really lame names should never be used for studios. Not jokey/ha ha shit but ones that guys would name their suburban ADAT studios in the '90s.
I'm thinking:
Right Track
Track Shack
Trax (was one in Portland!)
Let's see some more, especially real ones you've heard of if you'd like to embarass someone in your town.
PS: If anyone says Jackpot! I'll kick their ass!
There's another place in town called Rax Trax...they are more local-band oriented but still pretty well-known (Robbie Fulks records there, which is cool).

Re: Names NOT to Use for Your STUDIO
You guys have just named about every studio in South Florida. I?m not even kidding. I'd like to add some names to the list but the studios I'm thinking of are still open (and doing well actually) and I typically try to not even acknowledge any of these guys. I wonder if any of them read this board? Just so you get an idea of how bad it is down here, a place named ?Sonic Groove? just closed down. There are 3 others that I can think of right off the bat but I want to try to be nice.

I once owned a studio in thhe desert called bunny ranch recording, couldnt keep the truckers away, we eventually had to change the name.
We should have renamed it to Shit Hack. Actually, is anyone using that name now? thats an awesome name. Shit hack recording. damn.

How about Southern Tracks, and have it be somewhere in the south? oh, wait...
Actually Brendan O'Brien frequents that studio, so it must not suck.

I have a friend who developed the "Right Track" royalty management software system. Spends a lot of time in Nashville and Europe.jmiller wrote:There actually is a Right Track in New York, i think. One in town is called Hear2Hear. I dare anyone to name a lamer one. I really have no idea how someone could say, "Yea, Hear to Hear. No wait, Hear2Hear. That's it!"
I always supposed someone lost a bet and had to name it that.
Funny thing though; it is one of the biggest (if not the biggest in terms of clients) in town. It certainly has the biggest traking room.
