Is anyone keeping count of how many people are in for how many? (yeah, I would count but I don't want to right now) :P

I guess with shipping, we could make it easier and maybe cheaper if all the mics going to the same city went to one address, and people could pick them up. Lots of us here in NYC, and it seems there are some other tapeop hubs as well. If they all get shipped to one place from China, it should be where there are the most people that could pick them up instead of re-shipping; whether that's NY or LA or whatever. We should all split the shipping costs equally, regardless of where we are. But this should keep the reshipping costs to a minimum.

I am down for 2 as well. Someone needs to organize this because this sounds like a huge thing for the tapeop community. Keep me posted!

There's gotta be a way to organize this. It would be a bitch to distribute the 100 though, even if in 50 batches of 2 per. I'm in for one, but would push it to two if it were necessary. But how to do it?..

I'd be in for two. Or am I too late?

This is where I would start searching for the maker.

BEIJING 797 AUDIO CO., LTD

ADDRESS: NO 2 JIUXIANQIAO ST. CHAOYANG DC. BEIJING CHINA 100015

TEL.: 86-10-64385650

FAX.: 86-10-64386201

I'm not sure this is the corect company but it is the largest Chineese exporter of mics and if they don't make it I'm sure they know who does.

I could probably whip up a quick web page database that could track who wants how many, what their shipping address is, and if they've paid. I could password protect it. But there's no way I could manage the whole project. If that sounds like it will help, I'll try to put something together. It'll be really sparse and simple, but will help whomever wants to organize this thing.

Fields for the DB:

- Name
- Tapeop Username
- Shipping Address
- Phone
- E-mail
- Amount Paid
- Quantity
- Ship Date

Anything else? We could pull a couple simple reports from this to assess total ordered, etc.

70dB is enough for my T-bone in all but the most extreme circumstances (distant ambience micing of quiet sources like picked nylon stringed guitar for instance).
But the quality of the transformer and build is such that noise from the microphone becomes the dominating (and diqualifying) factor above 70dB of applied gain anyway (compared to a quality ribbon like Royer). So there really isn't any point in more gain anyway. That might change if you do a transformer mod.

What else? Well, I'll take a stab and say it's got to be at least another $10 per unit for receipt (shipping) and distribution (shipping). I think it would be healthier to assume we would all be in for $80 a pop.

But how to protect the $7k while in escrow, etc? That is a tough one.

Another suggestion that might be worth pursuing, and I'll preface by saying that I have no idea if it would actually work. But if we have this many people who would be willing to drop around $80 a peice on them, maybe it would be worth getting the list together of interested people and trying to make a mass one time purchase from PPA? Maybe we could work a deal with them for more than the $80 but way less than list. It would probably cost us more per mic, but we could possibly buy them direct and individually and not need one massive bankroll?

Now they are in business to sell these mic's at a certain price point and make money, but they could also gain a lot of good word of mouth if the mics deliver.

If this happens, I'll go for two at that price.

I think I found them:

They don't have it listed on their website though. I've sent them an e-mail asking about it.
