Don't worry I loved the album too. I just thought the mix was absolute shit. There was no sense of space within the mix, horrible shame cause there's some cool stuff on that album that would benifited.

I also forgot to mention:

Pinback-Summer In Abandon

It's both sonically and artistically awsome.

Notable rotation here...

The Unbroken Circle -The Musical Heritage Of The Carter Family
Wilco - A Ghost is Born
Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days
Green Day - American Idiot
Bj?rk - Medulla
Soundtrack to "Garden State"
Elvis Costello & The Imposters - The Delivery Man
Soundtrack to "Cold Mountain"
Soundtrack to "Big Fish"
Ben Harper & The Blind Boys Of Alabama - There Will Be A Light
Aesop Rock - Bazooka Tooth

I think those are all '04... I'm sure I missed some.

Chris "Little Dog Audio" did this record if i'm not mistaken.

I recorded them as a backing band for a great songewriter and they were as thrilled with the record as you are...

man, I am listening to the last Elliott Smith, and I am totally fucking blown away with everything about it.

I also really liked,

Smile
the newest pinback
the newest Velvet Teen
the newest Sufjan Stevens.

2004, was it a good year?
I really like
- Ted Leo and Pharmacists - Shake the Sheets
- Sonic Youth - Sonic Nurse

I've trouble to think of good ones that haven't been mentioned before.
- Hot Snakes - Audit in Progress, probably.
I'm sure I forgot the best ones.

WTF? 5 pages and not one mention of Trevor Dunn's Trio Convulsant. Their debut, Sister Phantom Owl Fish, had to be the best record of the year. Isn't anyone else into.. Uhh... Psychedelic... umm... Jazz Metal?

I think the only other albums I bought last year were:

Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains - Big Eyeball in the Sky
Melvins/Lustmord - Pigs of the Roman Empire

Neither lived up to my expectations, but were both pretty amazing nonetheless. Seems to me there just isn't much good new music coming out. Would like to check out the Tom Waits though.

Oh, yeah, I got the new Nuerosis too. Sorry to whoever said it was their favorite, but that was about the worst Nuerosis album I've ever heard. I know they're into the long drawn out metal/industrial jams, but I just thought it was boring and kept losing interest. I don't know, I guess I'll give it another listen. You should check out the Melvins/Lustmord, should be right up your alley.

Holy shit, I forgot about Sonic Youth. That was a great album. Got to see their live debut of the album at the Troubadour too. Only had to wait in line about 9 hours for tickets. It kicked ass.

The Sam Phillips album is awesome. T-Bone Burnett produced it and Jay Belarose played drums on it. Now that I think about it, he played drums on the new Solomon Burke album and that was a great album as well. Burke is an old soul singer, and he did an album of covers like Tom Waits and Elvis Costello. Joe Henry produced that one.

Abattoir Blues: The more I listen to this, the more I love it; it's not a hugely different for Cave or hugely better, it's just amazingly consistent in it's excellence.

Even the loops are killer.

I've heard it about 10 times, and am now almost ready to get with The Lyre of Orpheus.

And I thought I would miss Blixa...
