cpu recording question!
Hi I am looking to get a digital set up in my semi pro studio. I want to be able to dump 24 tracks from the 2" to a program like pro tools or digital performer ,then edit in the cpu, and then mix the 24 tracks on my analog console
what is the best way to do this for under $2000 and still keep it good quality?
i have thought about a motu 2408 mk 2 maybe even 3 of them. cant you hook 3 together to get 24 in and outs? could you use any light pipe converter?
Is it true you can only do 16 in and 16 out with the digi 002?
help me get this going I need to get the didi thing a happining.
xoxo Beef

It has light pipe in and out as well, so you can get another ad converter to hook up to it to get 8 more ins. beef

Re: cpu recording question!
what exactly do you need for under 2Gs--the whole system? just the audio interface? what...

Re: cpu recording question!
You're going to need 24 in/out for sure - you won't be able to find a system that does continuous re-sync to timecode for under $2k (at least none that I'm aware of..).
Are you on Mac or PC?
Getting 24 channels of A/D convertors for under 2k is going to be tough. You can use up to 4 2408 interfaces on one 424 card, but a 24i/o and a 2408mk3 is going to run around $2500. You probably could find used ones cheaper, though.

I have the cpu. I need interface, and the converters, as well as software. what about a used moto 2408 mark 2, and a couple more 8 channel ad/da converters?
wiil pro tools software work with out its own interface?
thanks Beef

Re: cpu recording question!
what about the MOTU 24i/o core system? isn't that exactly what you're looking for?
motu 24i/o
they sell for about $1250
spend the other $750 (or more) on software. MOTU love DP, but that's all a matter of taste...

i think the motu 24 i/o core is only 8 analog in and 24 digi in. I need 24 analog in. what is the diffrence between the core system and a 2408 mark 2 used? B

Re: cpu recording question!
it wont work with PT because PT is digidesign hardware dependant (they sell you the hardware and give you the software)
I would recommend Cubase SX and a 24 I/O that should get you there on budget.

Re: cpu recording question!
You could stack three Aardvark Q10's for about $1500. I just picked up one on ebay for less than $500. Assuming that you have 3 PCI slots available. Each unit has 8 channels.
I will be setting up the second unit in the same computer when it arrives. Should be interesting.

I heard Aardvark is no longer.
The 24/IO is great, I have one. They go used for about a grand.

Re: cpu recording question!
Go with the 24io. I just got one about 3 weeks ago and really like it. It'll do everything that you seem to be asking for and you don't have to use multiple units to get your 24 in/outs. It's all right there. I also use it the same way you plan on using it,sending most of my tracks back out to the board.
