well one thing is for certain. a person who holds back will never display their talent. someone who doesnt try things and doesnt try to be a leader usually wont look like they care.so in that sense, sure.

I've found out another thing for certain... once the subject of a thread gets some screwed up punctuation, there's no fixing it.

Now... if only Soundguy would join in and call me names... I'd have a classic!

as far as talent vs. charisma, I don't know. Charisma for some reason makes me cringe. Every time I think about the word charisma all I think of is people who are overly excited, or too readily happy to show off their talent, or lack thereof. I know it makes me sound like a dick, and I know that has nothing to do with the actual meaning of the word, but to me charisma is synonimous with egotism.

Talent is an ability to do something well. Usually it?s an enhancement of something that person can naturally just do.
Charisma on the other hand is more of a magnetism that just draws people in. When people have charisma you want to watch them perform, talk to them, meet them learn about them etc.
I don't think they are interchangeable at all. There are definitely people who have both. Mr Sinatra comes to mind. There are people who have one of each. Joe Satriani has talent, but little charisma. Paul Stanley has tons of charisma, but little talent.
nimd311, I think egotism is something different all together. Again it can be combined with talent and/or charisma, but its something different. Egotists are self-centered, dominating types. Gene Simmons is an egotist, with little talent or charisma (to keep on the Kiss theme). Don Henley is an egotist with a lot of talent and some charisma.

And if it's gotta be one or the other, I'll take talent and no charisma anyday. Though not a huge fan, I did see Phish once. Four guys rarely ever being charismatic (actually three, since the drummer has tons), but damn can they play their isntruments. Conversely, I saw John Fogerty once (hey, it was free). It was almost sickening to watch his canned, ultra-smiley performance that completely lacked any feel to it. But the crowd at it up, so I guess it works for the right audience.

Re: What's the difference:"talent" vs. "chari
I think the best artists have a blend of the two. Personally I'd rather see a mediocre band with an awesome stage presence and an awesome show as opposed to a technically perfect group who just stands on stage with lifeless expressions on their faces. Charisma sells though. It just creates a buzz that people LOVE talkin about, and if you've got charisma it can be a great advertising weapon. of course, if you have absolutely no talent, you'll go down in flames pretty quickly.

I'd say the difference is huge; unfortunately it's charisma that sounds good.
I find it sad that so many talented people have no charisma, and vice versa.

.
If you have talent, you need no lessons.
Andre Segovia had talent (never took a lesson in his life)
He went so far as to say he felt lessons inhibited ones ability to express ones self on an instrument., yet he had an extreme degree of virtuosity.
Kurt Kobain had charisma. I often look past his lack of virtuousity on guitar and see great personal expression.
