Demagnetizers, the robust and the busted

Post by shedshrine » Wed Nov 16, 2005 6:13 pm

Had a Teac E-3, always mada a satisfying buzz when it was on, but in fact hadn't been doing anything, for how long not sure,

Hadn't used my Tascam 4 track in a while, and while dubbing some cassette tracks to computer through outboard, (rewinding repeatedly til I got it right) there was definitely some high end being lost on subsequent playbacks.

Tried the Teac on a old cassette, bulk erase style, and sure enough, no effect whatsoever.

Just received a Han-D-Mag (ordered from US Recording) today. Man, this thing feels like it would erase your memory if you stood too close for too long. Oh, and great playback restored. Yahoo!

Maybe this will prove to a friend across town, a Tascam 388 owner of several years, that one of these things is really necessary!! Going for about $60.

The handy mag is the best one!

I'm fortunate enough to have an industrial bulk eraser at my day job which rules if you use big reels..

..and stop calling me surely.

No problemo. Thanks for letting me shed 1989 tape oxide all over your 388 heads. Looking forward to remixing those old tracks.

Say, next time you need a demag, can I run another reel? Pleaase?:D

i need to get one of those. i keep buting these piddly little ones off ebay that don't seem to work. no hum or buzz at all. i still follow the ritual, but i can't hear much improvement really.
