I know Blue just came out with a new one, it's one of their "ball" mics. Probably worth checking out.

I had two normal Samson c01's which were good for how cheap they were and got used a ton, but I have since moved on to better things.

The thing I wonder is, would a usb mic be like adding another channel to your DAW? Could I just plug it in and assign it a track? I have no idea how these work, but they seem interesting and claim to be "plug and play." I guess I could find out, but I'm skeptical still.

As for the 'adding another channel' bit, wouldn't you have clocking issues, because the USB mic and the other converters aren't synced?

That is a podcast I listen to sometimes. Its from a pretty cool indie music news site. The main guy uses the mic you speak of, i just asked him the other day. Sounds pretty clear to me, even after the low quality mp3's that are podcasts.

The Samson one is really crappy through my system. I've used it with a really nice laptop that has a lame soundcard running Sony Sound Forge and it does not even come close for me. Totally worthless sounds.

so is it putting out a digital signal through the usb plug? if so, that means you're buying a mic, preamp, and converter all for the low price of whatever, which gives them three ways to screw up your sound. just saying, it could be three times as crappy as a similarly priced normal mic.

Look like a good way to accurately record the whirring hard drive

I should add.... my IBM ThinkPad built-in mic sounds better than the SamAsh/Samson USB when used with care.

This thread is almost a decade old, but I just bought the microphone in question, which appears unusable in multi-tracking due to latency.

Samson admits it. I've yet to discover if the recording is latent or just the monitoring, though I'm not particularly hopeful.
