Favorite film soundtracks?

i've been really getting into film scoring and soundtracks lately. i really dig the stuff Clint Masell did for "Requiem for a Dream" and "Pi". the original score for "28 Days Later" is awesomely eery and depressing as well.

as far as soundtracks with compilations of bands, "The Crow" (1st one) has some really really good stuff on it.

.... Phillip Glass's scoring is another that stands out.

HBO's original series always have great music as well. "6 Feet Under", "Carnivale" and "Deadwood" most noteably.

and i saw that movie "Jarhead" in the theatres a bit ago, and it had "Something in the Way" by Nirvana.... sounded so fucking amazing in the theatre, loud with surround sound.

The Sean Penn movie "Assassination of Richard Nixon" - the soundtrack is mostly just the 2nd movement of Beethoven's fifth piano concerto over and over again. It really made a big difference in the movie, conveying a sense of pathos and striving. Of course, Beethoven is kind of a slam dunk. Anyway, this is the best example I can give of a soundtrack that really augments the onscreen drama in a film.

vanilla sky.. i know u h8 the movie.. but the part where time squares empty, n radiohead kicks n surround with everything in its right place.. bbaaaddd azzz....

Man, is that some good shit!

I had a cancelleation today, so I watched a movie on TV that was prety awful but had a really interesting soundtrack. It was a Dennis Leary film called "Double Whammy." Totally lame movie, but cool music. Sounded like Pell Mell meets Latin Playboys or something, only a little less sonically innovative. I've gotta find out who did the music for that.

I generally tend to like the Danny Elfman stuff, but I'm also a fan of Stewart Copeland's work, Michael Chang, and Hans Zimmer. I'm sure there's a few others I'm forgetting.

I love Mark Mothersbaugh's soundtracks for the Wes Anderson films. Especially for the Royal Tenebaums. Some of the parts have a nice french impressionist feel that's really refreshing to hear again.

I watched the Gus Van Sant movie Last Days the other day, pretty interesting music (some of which was done by the actors).
