Getz's Jazz Samba
Who recorded it and how??? IMO thats one of the best recordings ever, just in terms of warmth and transparency. I would very much like to know.

I'm a big Creed Taylor fan. I think he engineered a lot of his own stuff.
Found this...

And he talks about it in this great interview, too.

Re: Getz's Jazz Samba
I don't know much about how it was recorded, but I do agree with you. That recording just knocks me out every time I hear it. The things that I hear in that recording have really guided my own philosophy of recording to a large extent, despite the fact that my own style of music sounds NOTHING like that. Im sure nobody who heard my music would ever pick that album out as an influence, but it truly is.Girl Toes wrote:Who recorded it and how??? What kind of mics?? What kind of machine??? And how???mr scratchy esq wrote:The Studio Stories book says that Jazz Samba was recorded with 2 mics on a Sony tape machine at 7 1/2 ips. These details are mentioned in the chapter on A & R Studios. There is much more info on the Getz/Gilberto recording.
