$1k to spend today
Let's say you had approx $1k to spend on studio-related gear today (a mic, a piece of outboard gear, an instrument, etc) what would you buy?

a good, hardwired patchbay system that covers all my gear and i/o. i've been dodging this for a while.
or
another sytek. i know a bunch of people mentioned this, but four more channels of decent pres wouldn't hurt
or
a pair of 414ebs
or
fix my broken ampex 350, beyer ribbons, and 797 audio tube mic
who's donating the cash?

Yeah, I dodged this one for a while. Except when it came down to it, with all the cabling and tools and materials it actually came to $4000, not $1000. And was worth every damn penny too.kakumei47 wrote:a good, hardwired patchbay system that covers all my gear and i/o. i've been dodging this for a while.
best,

Hmmm...... Hard one! Maybe a Sytek and a Shinybox ribbon? Or one of those DAV mic pres that's been getting a lot of hype on Gearslutz (I record a lot of classical music, and it sounds perfect for that) and a pair of Shinyboxes? Or that used pair of 414s or new pair of 4050s I've been pining for? Or a couple of M160s? Or a used R121? Or a console?
