Anybody know anything about these things?
Can they still be serviced?can you still get this "magic oil"??

Do they sound as cool as they look???

Three or four Fender "oil can" devices were located at the Chicago Store during TapeOpCon. Perhaps someone around here can weigh in on their experieence with the new purchase.

I have a Morley EDL.
It's pretty cool but not so special as to be really worth hunting down. I find a decent analog delay (like the Yamaha E1010) way more useful and cool.

I think the oil is pretty dangerous... extremely carcinogenic or something, so I doubt you'll be able to get them serviced.

Dang- I thought it was more like "can you build a reverb chamber out of a 55 gallon oil drum".

What I'm waiting for is someone on this board to build a reverb chamber in a concrete grain silo on a farm....

I once read in Guitar Player that Ry Cooder used one. He said they're kind of a bitch to maintain.

I was just looking at a rural property that had 2 huge silos and was thinking this same thing. One could be the big chamber and the other could be sectioned off into medium and small chambers. Mmm....

I used one of those morely pedals. I thought it sounded coool as shit. More goopy and underwater sounding than any other reverb I ever heard, with a badass doppler effect out of tune/ echo cycle. I vote for Exceedingly Groovy.

I'm sort of a collector of all things Tel-Ray, which is the company which created the oil-can electrostatic delay.

I have a Super Ogan Tone which combines the fluttery lo-fi echo with a beautiful vibrato. All tube as well.

I love the sound of those things.

I was just recently given a Tel-Ray 1001 Ad-n-Echo. It's probably not working correctly, but it sure sounds great- spooky, out of tune, very off-kilter. It made the guitar we ran it through sound like it was in a fun house with angled walls. Makes me want to fix up the Vox one I've had sitting around for years.

The rumour always was that the oil was carcinogenic PCB's etc., and it's unknown apparently. It looks as if the guys who run the main site have a supply of non-toxic oil, and are now fixing the things.
