Dave Smith inventor of MIDI, the Prophet line of synthesizers, the Korg Wavestation, some of the first software instruments, and now the Evolver line of synths in Behind the Gear. That would be the shiz-nit.

I'll second this nomination.

Phil of foibles. He's an incredible lyricist and song-writer. Folks who have been clamoring for more attention being given to the budget side of things would love it b/c he's made some incredible records all on cassette 8-track. I strongly urge anyone who hasn't heard him to check Foibles out, a real inspiration, musically and recording wise. Tape Op did a favorable review of his first CD a few years ago, maybe that can be found in the archives...

I always learn a lot from the interviews of session cats. Some engineer interviews can be a bit repetitive (sorry, heresy, I know, but how many times do we need to ask some dude what he thinks of plugins vs. outboard effects? How many times must we revisit the engineer vs. producer comparison/contrast?) but the perspective of a career studio musician is always a bit different. I really liked that interview with the woman who did the bass on Pet Sounds - what's-her-name -

anyway, yeah. Session cats.

"what's-her-name"
Carole Kaye....

How about Mitchell Froom...?

But definitely Kearney Barton...
