What's your poison?
What's your poison?
This is a recording website, so like many of you I've got mics, preamps, gear, etc.
Like most of you, I'm also a musician. What's your weakness? What do you accumulate more than other things?
Apparently I'm an amp whore. A bass player, I have a Hartket 350 watt head (that's for sale on Craigslist), an Acoustic Image head, two bass cabinets, an Ampeg B12 that's too quiet for much gigging but sounds great, an old tube Magnatone bass amp with an open back and a 15" (that spends more time with a guitar plugged into it than a bass).
I only play guitar for my own amusement, but I've got a blackface Showman (I'm 40, when I bought it they were cheap) that's retired from bass rig duty and built into a 1x15 open back guitar combo, a Danelectro 5 watt "Leader" that sounds just great with a Tele, and a battery powered Roland Micro Cube.
My name's Standup, and I'm an amp slut.

Amen, Scott. I'm a fuzz guy myself, even tho i've only got a couple. The right distortion rarely comes from one 'thing', rather a culmination of things. A great guitar into a nice driven (or maybe spanky clean) tube amp with a well designed fuzz or boost (or both) usually get the tone flowin'. As much of a pain in the arse as it is, I really like all the variables that gain staging can bring...I guess that's what I'm addicted to. That and i wouldn't mind having a wooly mammoth and a pigsnortion.. but yeah.

Janky drum stuff. Being cheap is really more trouble than it's worth. I've got three sub-$100 snare drums (I only use one), a dubious vintage kit (sort of got sucked into buying it) and a bunch of bargain cymbals (only use one crash/ride and hats). I'm not repentant, though. I continue to live by the motto "Who pays retail?"
Ricks
I'm a rickenbacker slut-
have had blue boy 330, FG 370-12, Maple 340v64, tuxedo 4003, black 4001, and traded or sold all of these in the past 3 years.
now i currently am down to a 4001v64 and a FG 330.
But naturally i am still looking for more. Please help me. the first step is admitting i have a problem

Must... resist... new... gear...
I've actually been reducing or swapping gear for the past 6 months. I've discovered the joys of mods (thanks Michael at OktavaMod) and updates (Lindy Fralin pickups will be getting some more business from me soon). Got my baritone acoustic properly set up.
Fixing up what I have will take some time, which is good because I can't get new gear without going broke.
