I am very curious about the quality of the mic preamps as well as the MADI option (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MADI).

audient has a reportedly high quality box that's an 8 channel mic pre with an adat out option.
class a preamps, variable impedence... all the things you'd want in a box i think...

hope that helps....or adds another option to the fire.

Out of curiousity, how many channels do you need and what interface/computer are you feeding? Any preamps going analog?

I used to use a Digimax LT but replaced it with a Sytek MPX4Aii and BLA mod to my 828mk2. I also have a modded Presonus MP20, EH12AY7, and just bought a Symetrix SX202. The DigiLT wasn't bad but was a bit bland. I did not like it for drum overheads and I noticed some slight clocking problems (clicks) from time to time when using the unmodded 828mk2 as master.

Live recording or location recording of bands?

I think the Focusrite's are the best on this list. but kinnda over priced. Don't be afraid of the new "Onyx" stuff, mackie gets a bad rap for its "VLZ" line with good reason. However at work I often am forced to use VLZ's and at home I have some onyx's and I forget that there made by the same company. There really not comparable; I would however avoid there interfaces. big driver problems.
