Scully 100-16 2" Tape Machine
So, I am in possession of said machine, but my ambitions to track to tape have dwindled in the past two years as I am on the road too much to really learm how to use and maintain it. I have done a bit of research on the piece, but it seems pretty rare.
What I wonder is, should I attempt to sell the unit or part it out? It includes a lovely meter bridge that I have seen people selling on ebay for wildly different asking prices. It also has 4 DBX 155s (4 channel tape noise reduction) racked under the deck.
The unit powers up and plays tape, the meters move, but I don't have the appropriate connectors to hook it into our mixing board and listen. It was in fine working condition when I bought it, though I have also noticed the tape only rewinds and fast forwards for a few seconds and then stops, which leads me to conclude I have no idea what I'm doing with this machine and I shouldn't be messing with it!
Anyway, anyone have any interest in all or part of this machine?

Boy, that's a big ol' beast. The reels look like 1" almost, 'cause the thing is so big. I gotta believe the parts market is limited to the few other model 100 owners out there. I don't think it shares many parts with the 28x series of machines. I got lotsa Scully docs, but nothing for that deck.
There's a Yahoo! Group for Scully owners. I don't have a link handy, but it's easy to find. There would be some answers and maybe some interest over there. I'd love to have it, but have absolutely no good reason to own something like that other a perverse fascination with old gear and Scully stuff.
Where in Indiana?

For real? Congratulations! You got it bad. You're gonna hafta tell us how it goes with that thing. It was a real struggle for me to not call up gevermil and go get it myself. I'll start paying more attention to the posts about it on the yahoo! group now...

Yep. Drove down to Indy and picked it up yesterday. indiana is a real cool guy. The machine is a total beast. It was a lot of fun getting it down into my basement. Luckily I have a cellar access with only 7 steps or so. But it was still a back-breaker.
I'm going to read through the entire manual before I even attempt to do anything with it. It definitely has a tension issue going on.
I'm excited about getting it up and running and hearing how she sounds.

best of luck on that.
the 100 series was good sounding but considered a dog by techs. I had a chance at one of those some years ago and was told to RUN from it by more than one tech. I sincerely hope you have the ability to get yours running b/c it does sound mighty fine when all tuned up.

Well, the good thing about it is that it is a remarkably simple design... not a lot to go wrong. The damn thing doesn't even have a counter!
I hope I can get it running, too. If not, I'll probably part it out.

I'm confident that I can get it running. It is a very simple design. There is a great tech/engineer here in town that I am good friends with and he is intrigued by the machine, so hopefully he'll help me out.
