But really. I happen to like his voice. You're obviously entitled to your own opinion. What popular rock voices do you favor?
I like his voice too, in small doses. The Tain is an excellent song. This isn't a thread on what we do like, but since you asked, it's all over the place for me- off the top of my head- D. Boon, Gillian Welch, Jon Anderson, Sheryl Crow, Jello Biafra, Phil Ochs, Joanna Newsom, Johnny Cash, etc.
That is all over the place. I guess I don't have one particular voice that I drift too either...

And yeah, I know what the thread was about, but I got curious :P

I dislike it when a band or artist has a fetish for analog.

I agree, no splash cymbals!

Anyone that uses that Bose amplifier "stick."

No, just that dude rocking out in that Bose amplifier advertisement in the Guitar Center catalog.

No, fuck it, just his pony tail and the look on his face.

Have I mentioned that I HATE the fucking whiney-ass Decemberists....?
What is whiney about the Decemberists? You don't like the timbre of his voice?
I guess it's the affectation that sounds like a speech impediment. Is it "ter" in a word that he can't (or won't) pronounce? - I've forgotten. The effect is, as I said, like nails on a chalkboard for me.

("Whiney" may not have been the best word to articulate my distaste...)

Rush. Eagles. Steely Dan. Poco. Toto. Triumph. FM. Van Halen. (edited to add Asia).

I am pretty sure I don't even know what Emo is, but I hate it.

My (much younger, rarely home) room mate is wildly into Nickelback & Staind...I just let those moments where we would talk about music pass.

I thought I hated Joanna Newsom, but them I sort of fell asleep on the bus listening to Ys. and it kind of ruled.

I actually like City Of Echoes...it is kind of boring, but in a good way. Like a Ry Cooder soundtrack.

Bands that use v-Drums and pods into keyboard amps. Usually found stuffed into the corner of a corporate coffee shop or health-food store, chugging away at sedated versions of classic rock tunes. I know musicians have to make a living, but fuck, what a travesty...

Bright Eyes- Conor shit vibrato sounds like a sheep dying to me. However, I think the Desparacidos albums kicks ass.

Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac- do I really need to explain?

Morrissey- I just realized last year, that I actually really like the Smiths music, and that it's just him that kills it for me.

Muse- Still think it sounds like a shit radiohead ripoff, with no redeeming qualities.

Any band you look at, and immediately know the general way they sound see: "hardcore" bands. "I've got tattoos and piercings that my mom bought me!"
Also- any band that looks like a group of WWF wrestlers. see: nu-metal ie: mudvayne. Somehow it just strips me of all ability to take their music seriously. hmm.

Basically any new Rap music, or just anything that's sequenced instead of when people used to actually cut records, or shit, even USE records to sample from. (that being said, Mark Ronson's album is a nice breath of fresh air from that). I'll just keep listening to my old Roots and Tribe Called Quest albums instead.

Anything on the radio. Esp, as someone else said, that uber-patriot, racist, bullshit known as "country".

Any bands that make that fateful turn from kicking much ass to sucking much ass.

ie: Death Cab, Modest Mouse, Beastie Boys, G-Love, hell I might even put Ryan Adams on that list, well I've give him one more album.

SHIT you know what I just noticed, pretty much all those bands I just listed have "cleaned up" from drugs or drinking or whatever. Looks like Bill Hicks was right.
off somewhere listening.

Dance-punk. And by the way, when did the 80s go from being lame to awesome?

asleep at the wheel = you

"Rumours" is hands down not only one of the best pop records of all time, but one of te most meticulously recorded. and drugs? cocaine practically pours out of the speakers when you play this one. oh well...

and for the record, Modest Mouse has sucked balls since after that EP with the golden gate bridge on it.
