word. I don't trust very many people, especially on da innernets... but Joel's advice and opinions have been a benefit many times. I buy records with his name on them, he's got as good as taste as i do!

It's not as easy as posing for a picture. I think that you have to also spend a few years infiltrating a message board, earn their trust, and then start sneaking in mentions of Miller High Life and Gibsons. The people at Miller Brewing Company and Gibson are watching. When you've mentioned their products a sufficient number of times, you can start expecting a shipment.

BEHOLD!

Image

Nothing like several companies trying to get your drunken attention in a quest to be the highest bidder.

Sure, it's not a guitar and not a Gibson, but it is a beer advertisement, like your hat.

Imagine the possibilities!

Wow, what's up kids?

Hey Joel, I don't like my posts being deleted. For the record, I made fun of your use of the word 'sick' in describing some smashing/creaming/destroying of drum sounds, and you, you deleted it.

Wtf? I know you're enthusiatic about your job and that's awesome, but, my opinion is that these squashed-room-mic drum sounds are utter dogshit like 99% of the time, and I WOULD be pissed if I came in to record, had a great drummer play a fine performance, only to have some schlub decide to 'destroy' the room mics with some squashbox, because it's 'the sound'. Fuck that garbage. OPINION, that's my opinion, and I posted it - it's awfully childish that you deleted it. I recorded some drums w/ an ex studio G fella, a very nice guy personally, but I sat there going 'wow, my 3 mics-in-a-garage sounds better than the 15k worth of mics surrounding my kit'. I mean, fuck, there were a pair of ELAM 251's for room mics and the dude watching porn in the control room was excited to 'crush the shit out of them'.

So, I'm there reading the drivel about how "sick" this piece is, and I'm like, 'fucking bullshit already' and posted it. And I posted it so some kid just starting out doesn't get the idea that he HAS TO OWN ONE, TOO. Gear is way too fetishized by this board (yea, I KNOW it's a gear forum) and it's silly, way sillier than some balloon poppers could ever be..

Why would you record with an engineer if you didn't like the sound of his recordings?

a sort of pumpkin orange shag carpet with avocado linoleum kitchen and bathroom floors vibe.

it makes you wanna wear flares, which can either be good or bad.

no ICs in that thing, just caps and resistors and a few transistors in metal cans and a very short signal path.

it's pretty clean with a gummy, slightly hairy breakup when you totally crank it and it runs off a single 9 volt battery for half an eon.

i'm thinking of posing with it in front of a red brick wall while wearing mirrored cop shades and a well-worn denim jacket.
