What was the coolest Soundcraft board?

Your favorite sounding to mix on, favorite eq, most reliable, etc. What's the best soundcraft? Just wondering. There's a lot of 'em.

I've only mixed on the Spirit's, Europa, Series V, and Series IV but never on any of their recording consoles. If the recording consoles are anything like their FOH consoles then they can't bee to bad.

Sorry if I wasn't any help.

On a somewhat related topic those old UREI 1620 mixers that Soundcraft now makes are pretty cool, and the mic pre sounds great.

I personally think the Ghost is my favorite of their consoles. It has much of the vobe that some of the older consoles have, but it works, every day, and besides the CRM pot, it is uaually scratch and pop free for years and years. I have worked with many of them, some with ashes in the fader slots, and they just keep on trucking. So completely killer, especially for the (very low) money. The 32 channel version with the meter bridge is totally enough console for almost anything, and you can find the expander modules (like 12 or 16 more channels!) for pretty cheap when they pop up on ebay.

Dude,

There's some guy with a 32 channel Ghost on craigslist for $1200 locally here. That was a few days ago. I just can't pony up the cash right now though. Folgers. It's probably gone anyway.

Yeah, man, I'd love to do another beer and gear night one of these days. You didn't go for a toft eh?

I've got a soft spot for the 600, of which I've had a couple. Not Ghost quiet, or as multi-functional, but a decent sound and great layout/routing. A 200 w/ the deluxe EQ strips is also a sleeper.

That said, I did quite a few things on the Ghost they had a G, and I was never unhappy.

I always wanted to get a look at a Series II (not the current live console they make, but from the 70s). Those are supposed to be cool.

I have a Soundcraft 1600.

http://www.recordingconsoles.net/consol ... 1600_1.jpg

Awesome board. I believe the pre/eq's are the same as the 600 series? Not sure...but they sound great..the 4 band eq is pretty sweet.

I'm yet to run into another owner....anyone out there?

I bought a 600 about 10 years ago...I love that thing...it's only a 16x8x2 but it just sounded so nice. It's in great need of repair now and I can't seem to find anyone here local to work on it.
Of course I've had it in the ear before.....

Ah yeah. That 1600 sure looks pretty. I guess the reason for this post is to sort of figure out if the Ghost is the best thing going at the price it's going for used these days.

I'd probably actually prefer to have a modular board, possibly like the 600 or 1600. Having 100 million routing options doesn't ring my bell like sweet eq does (not that the Ghost's isn't, I don't know), also the ability to pull the hood easily, and also having things maintain integrity when you buss them. These are pretty much my main priorities, other than at least 24/8/2

And seeing as how 600's go for less than Ghosts do . . .

Are the IC's socketed in the 600 series?

Anyway,

Marc, drop me a PM one of the next times you'll be in the area. Would be cool to hook up. You have to hear this goddamn Nady w/ Peluso capsule and tranny I rigged up.

Thanks guys.

I'm in this place right now:

fantasizing about a toft atb <broker than shit> wanting taken for granted mixer fuctions (not available on PM1000), and willing to settle for a cool Soundcraft if the price is right

Best Soundcraft the 2400!

Post by Greg Furgason » Thu Aug 16, 2007 9:46 pm

We have a Soundcraft 2400 24x24x2 made in London, UK w VU Meters had it for 22 years still kicking
we use it everyday for editing to D-2 and Digibeta, VO and Audio Production (with a Studer A80 Mk IV 24 tk/ Nuendo 3.02 - Live Bands. www.powerplaydigital.tv and www.youtube.com/powerplaynetworks)
we upgraded the master section (Summing Buss) and Socketed all the ICs & recaped about 15 years ago. We use Jenson xformers on the inputs & group outs. It has 36 100mm , 16 65mm P&G faders & The Original arm rest still looks new!

I have used 200, 400, 500, 600, 800B (I have One it uses the same PS as the 2400) 1600, 2400, 3200 and the Ghost. The 2400 is the Best Desk in my book for sound and value.
