So the BLA folks are trying to convince me to drop $150 on an Audiophile Chord Codec BNC cable for my Microclock. Right now I'm using a generic, used BNC cable. I don't mind dropping $50 on a nice cable, but does anybody think I'm going to get Abbey Road sound if I buy what the Chord rep called an "entry level" cable??? I've always been pretty suspicious of audiophiles and gear that costs more than a new car. I could go with the Apogee Wyde Eye for a lot less. Any thoughts?

Maybe this is bs, but I was always told that cables are really where a lot of retailers make the largest profits. As such I would be wary, not to speak ill of BLA. Maybe see if you can buy it and return it if you don't hear the difference? I would LOVE to see audiophile gear with that kind of policy!

It's true. Retailers make their money on accessories. I work at one. Cables are marked up atleast 100% from their cost, if not more.A-Barr wrote:Maybe this is bs, but I was always told that cables are really where a lot of retailers make the largest profits. this is a good thread in the R/E/P archives about WC & related cabling :

lots of more detail there than people will go into on here..

I couldn't find anything about cabling in this thread. It seems like endless pages of technical arguments between electrical engineers. I bought a 1 meter Monster cable yesterday. If it doesn't sound a million times better that the 7 dollar generic cable I'm using now, I'll take it back and eat my hat.

there are a few parts of that thread, some even on the first page that deal with cables, distribution, line termination, etc.
I think the only EE on in the whole thread is Dan the guest moderator..Bob Katz is a mastering engineer of good repute..
make sure you really hear a difference by doing your A/B test blind!
sometimes you can hear money..it's weird..
