Yeah, a friend of mine who tracked Coalesce back in the day used to hand Sean Ingram one of those. Watching some on Ebay now.

The 'Club is in suspended animation. We're doing something meaner and dumber now.

sean ingram is a bad ass vocalist. he guested on a track on our first record... handed him lyric sheet, he walks into booth, hacks up some shit from his throat and nails it on first take. done.

Gefell PM750?

Handheld Neumann-esque condensor for 300 bucks, give or take. Can sound very good or just a little weird, depending on the singer. But they sure look cool.

...not exactly indestructible though, but capsules are interchangeable.

Yes, give them a 58 to growl into and put a condenser out in front of them. Run the 58 through distortion and compress the condenser and blend together. I've had this work very well and not so well, but try it.

I was going to suggest a sennheiser 441. It's a good vocal mic (yes yes, stevie nicks...). I've never had anyone hold it, but it'd be my choice. Frankly you could probably just take the clip off a 421 and hand it to them.

a backup is a fine idea.

Had vocalist a year or so back that needed a hand held and moved around a lot. We went through the usuals 57 and 58 (reg and beta), then onto a little more abnormal 421, e609, and then finally ended up loving the Audix i5. For this vocalist it rejected a lot of the handling noise, had less pops and sibilance from pushed air, and just sounded good.

I might suggest the i5, but if you have the time and patience it would be best to do what we did and go through as many mics as it takes until you find the one that works for this vocalist on this recording.
