what would be a cool name for a mic pre?
so if you were going to come out with a mic pre what would you name it?
i have a friend who is making a mic pre and he needs help with a name for it. a name is important and i think coming up with a cool name for gear is a lot harder than making up names for songs or lyrics. its like coming up with a name for a car. think about it. its hard.
obviously with names like robbie the mic pre. what a terrible name for a mic pre.

most people use a person's name and use that. such as belarri, neve, manley, etc.
but i'd like to use a descriptor that isn't someones name but which is
is cool and nice sounding like avalon. you don't have to like the gear but the name avalon is a cool name. it may even be a persons name which is contradicting to what i want. but i still think it's a cool name. shadow hills is a cool name. so if you have some ideas please post. would love to see how creative you are.

I actually thought Robbie The Mic Pre was a cute name, so I'll recuse myself from this discussion.

it's got to be something cool that you could hear in a conversation. so by his construct it has to be something short and sweet but not already used and something distinguished. for example the name of it couldn't be somehthing rediculous like " the xxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx.
because when people make a reference to it it would take up to much time to to even make a reference to it.
i mean could you image: " he johnny hook up that SM57 and then run it through the LA2A and then through the xxx xxx xxx xxxx xxx.
i bet that will sound amazing!"

Do I get a free mic pre if he picks my name?
How about: The Gloria Gain-er.
Ahem...
I agree it needs to be short. It should also convery the type of preamp that it is, ie colored, transparent, etc.
Something like The Eclipse if it's the baddest pre known to man!!!

I like the old detroit way of naming things, pick an animal that defines the ideal qualities of the product.
So if you you're building a pre that you want to be transparent with lots of gain, how about The Whip-Poor-Will?
A pre that adds a lot of "toob" character? The SuperSlug
A pre that's main attribute is the pretty flashing lights when it's sitting in your rack? The Fire Fly

Edit: but the xj7 is cool because it is the , not a peice of
(pooplog xj7 for short)

I like the Dan Electro pedal style of naming things after food products..
How about "The Buttermilk" or "Blue Cheese?"
Or you could just use a random number/character generator for something to go along with the 1073, 1272, 1176, UA610, API 525, etc., etc.. At least those translate well into foreign markets.
EDIT: The Jalapeno Popper!
