Masterpiece Albums

Post by Mudcloth » Thu Nov 29, 2007 7:24 am

The single is cool, but sometimes the big picture is cooler. Front to back, name your favorite albums. Some of mine, minus the obviousness of the Beatles :
Southern Nights -Allen Toussaint
Summerteeth -Wilco
Doug Sahm and Friends -Doug Sahm
Bitches Brew -Miles Davis
Hard Again -Muddy Waters
A Wizard a True Star -Todd Rundgren [Thanks for the reminder, Carges]
Combat Rock -Clash

Okay, that's a start.

Avoiding the obvious ones like Abbey Road, DSOTM, Pet Sounds, etc.,

Ys - Joanna Newsom
Come On Pilgrim
In an Aeroplane Over the Sea
Soup - Blind Melon
The Giants - Peterson, Pass & Brown
Does the Well Tempered Clavier count?

Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Master and Everyone
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Rust Never Sleeps (and it's live, too!)
Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Those albums are about as perfect as it gets for me.

Now this is what I'm talking about! I'm going to track down some of these to see what you're all talking about. It will be like book club, but without all that reading.

I can't believe I didn't include these, even off the top of my head. Kiko in particular is fucking brilliant. If I had to choose, probably my favorite band.

Donny Hathaway Live is also up there for me.

I've always thought that everything The Gathering did (from Mandylion on) was/is absolutely perfect.

Misery Index - Dissent
Skinny Puppy - Remission
Arrested Development - 3 Years, 5 Months, and 2 Days in the Life of...
The Wake - Masked
