I seriously love that video. Great Job! Great Song!

I downloaded Hail Dementia and Dirty Wedding years ago and It still gets regular rotation on the Ipod. I always play Dirty Wedding for my engaged friends. Love it!!
+1 for the Alice mic. I do shakers with that mine all the time. You have both the stereo and the cardoid?

Good work. Keep it up!
I have some really horrible gear!!!

Yep, I have both Alices...the cardioid is still my main acoustic guitar mic, and the stereo is usually used for drum overheads. Glad you continue to enjoy those songs...

...man what a gratifying, noggin-swelling thread...

Aha! Good to know that someone else does the dual 400f dance.

Great song, great video. I hope you actually track all your vocals with those facial expressions. I've submitted you to StumbleUpon. For better or worse.

PS-Congrats to Tom on his second child. Looks like he's got two backup singers now too. 8)

Ha!

This is awesome.

What a great video....loved the solder break! How utterly geeky that I particularly loved the solder break. That's just the kind of thing where you have to live it to get it. Yep.

Thanks again for everybody's interest!

BTW, that acoustic guitar is tracked through the Symetrix 501, my new favorite guitar comp.

It's ok, I like dry mixes.

So whats the general signal path? Is this through those Onyx preamps you got? Straight into computer from there?

No, the drums are through the JLM Baby Animals and Yamaha PM180...vocs and acoustic and other stuff is either Hamptone JFET or tube. I just use the Onyxes for a little extra clean gain...though they are good pres. I printed the compression on acoustic and vocals.

This is the first time I've done almost nothing to the drums...no tape saturation or even EQ. I think I finally have my mics in the right place. I am in awe of pro engineers who have to mic up a new kit for every session...

My wife, also from Ithaca, picked mushrooms with her mother (who lives in EcoVillage, I'm sure you know of it).

Great job, Amigo.

Aha! My wife and I were just talking about EcoVillage. AWESOME. What's her mom's name?

My physician, Suzanne, used to live there, but eventually threw in the towel.

Anyway, that is definitely an Ithaca Lyric.

My Mother in law is Deena, who like a good hippie recently changed her last name to Freed, to symbolically present to the universe that she has freed herself from all the things that her previous last names represented. She's a sweetie, I don't mean to too harshly poke fun at her on a public forum. That's the kinda stuff that comes back to haunt you! The time I've spent up at EcoVillage has been enough for me to say, "Nice Place, but I wouldn't wanna live there."

She actually rocks a classical guitar pretty handily- she's been studying for like 30 years now, and in her retirement she spends her time and cash going around the planet to Classical Guitar festivals, classes, and the like. Good for her! It's quite incongruous to what she looks like, a giggly older Jewish lady. Then she picks up her guitar, Her face gets serious, and blammo: Tone! Technique! Sonic Goodness! (I have never even touched a musical instrument around her for fear of getting shown up by her.)

I'm curious... in what order did you lay down all the parts? Did you start with a scratch guitar track, add the drums and then build up from there? Or something else?

At any rate, it's really well done.

I played the left acoustic guitar over a click, then the right, then the drums, bass, electric guitars, and synth. Then vocs and hand percussion. The acoustic part is two separate parts because I found the chords just too damned hard to play over and over. The electric rhythm part was easier, and I could play that all in one take.

I had to edit the drums pretty heavily I'm afraid. I am one sucky player. I recorded the cymbals separately for this very reason.

I watched this when I noticed it in your signature. Very cool tune and excellent taste in guitars. Is the Fender a Mustang?
