Has anyone here made the Gyraf SSL clone?

I wouldn't mind having a nice mix buss comp now that I'm mixing OTB. But I don't have the dough--or can't justify spending it--on a really good stereo unit.

The GSSL looks possible, esp. with boards from Gustav at GroupDIY. How involved is this project then? Does anyone have a project order set up at Mouser for it? How much money does it end up costing overall?

I have three sets of boards just sitting here that I bought years ago with the intent on making one for me and two for friends. When I added up all the parts, sans the cases, it was around $200 I think for all three together. The parts are very inexpensive. I don't know if I have a BOM or not; I'll look.

The thing that is confusing is that there seems to be many different revisions of the project and I have no idea which one I have (maybe it's printed on the boards; I have not looked recently).

If you want to get this one going, I'm in. It's something I've been meaning to do for awhile.

I did one. I love mine so much, that I can't be bothered to take it out of the rack long enough to finish it off with a proper front panel or meter It's a great I'm-ready-for-something-more-complex-than-a-stompbox project. All together mine cost me about $300-$350.

I have a project saved on Mouser, but it is not a complete parts list (I needed to get some stuff from Digikey) and contains several obsolete part numbers. I'm pretty sure that there is a BOM somewhere on group-diy, which is where I got most of my part #'s originally.

Yeah, I got on that thread, glanced at the page count, and ran like hell!

So why the huge difference in price between you guys? If I get serious about this, I'll go seek out that BOM...

My total might be a little higher than the spreadsheet shows because:
a) I used WIMAs for some of the capacitors
b) I used THAT Corp pre-trimmed VCA's which were something like $9 each
c) The total reflects shipping costs for everything
d) I ordered extras of pretty much everything just in case I screwed up.

I made (2) units.

The original Gyraf PCB version. So no sidechain or any of the extras that was added later by the group.

I also added some MCI output transformers on mine.

Nice work on the SSL fivefish.I decided against building these for now.
I'm part the way into building 4 x Mnats 1176's from Prodigy pro.
The one i've finished with Lundahl i/o sounds real nice.

I think I will just use blunderfonics' BOM, first taking out the parts I already have, which should be a fair amount--resistors, caps, sockets, opamps. We'll see, once I order the parts, if I've saved enough dough, I'll order a case from that dude, too. The cases look really nice, though I wish he was selling some that are cut for the VU meter he used in his own units. Maybe I'll ask him about that...

To give credit where credit is due: That is not my BOM. I didn't do all the research and layout, nor do I host it. I found it on group-diy. Greg Stein created it..

I do have a .FPD file that I made up that should work with the Behringer meter and a Par Metal 10 series enclosure. I haven't ordered this yet so you may want to double check my measurements before using it.

GSSL.FPD (right-click and choose "save as" otherwise you'll just get a bunch of text)
