Esthetically your favorite piece of gear.
A recent post talked about replacing knobs on a Pre-Amp and it got me thinking of a silly little question.
Who makes the prettiest out board gear?
What makes your rack look stellar?

Big knobs on old compressors with big VU meters...Ryan Silva wrote:A recent post talked about replacing knobs on a Pre-Amp and it got me thinking of a silly little question.

I have one of those cheap Focusrite's (platnium I think) and at the time I picked it up I was really excited about the VU's, but they made them with a blue background and faint white print. You have to get right up to em to read them, what a waste.
I do love my UA m610's 'Big Knob'

I'm partial to my Eisen pres (little Marconi knobs) and EQs, but I dig the retro look of my UA 2-610 too. Oh, and the faceplates and VUs on my 165As always catch my eye when I walk in the studio.
I was just thinking about the old knob switcharoo yesterday when I was contemplating picking up the new Chameleon Labs 7720 stereo comp. Those knobs are fugly.

Ach! all racked up they are greater than the sum of their parts too i reckon.
I dig a mere lit up black vla faceplate with the yellow vu's.
+1 on the Hamptone JFET, which would look even better witha Hamptone tube pre next too it.
The Distressor with those proportionately huge white dial knobs.
A mint Tascam 388 with the 10 vu's and the smoked plexi see through reel to reel cover..
Hell, the Tascam 424 MKII is the sexiest looking cassette four tracker...
My 70's tele with faded crackle gold yellow neck finish..
The electrix stuff, especially racked next to each other, the mofx, filterfactory, warpfactory, repeater.. looks like the second attempt to revive the firm is on the rocks again.
Stuff I dont' own:
Fearn compressors look like Ferrari's.
Groove Tubes VIpre
Altec Lansing
modded stuff with extra chrome flippy switches..
endless nameless..

My BAE Vintage Neve Rack filled with 1073's and my (2) DBX 160SL's (sitting right on top of each other). Very pretty indeed.

with the vibe that panel puts out visually, i don't think anyone would blink if they changed the "meter select" switch to say "meteor select" instead.creature.of.habit wrote:funniest part of this whole shadow hills hype thing is that, even if it sucked or was pretty bland..no one would be able to admit it...johnbohn wrote:By far one of the prettiest pieces of outboard gear I've ever seen.
