wow.. this is an awesome post.. now i feel like an asshole for stressing out when im not there for a session and sending text messages repeatedly about "make sure the phantom power is off!"

Hi Ju, that marvelous. I been telling folks this for years but I am just an analogue audio guy and never thought of running a video camera. Goes to show how a picture is worth a 1000 words.
Good on you for doing this mate.
If your microphone cables are in good shape you never have to worry about the phantom power hurting the ribbon element.
There is a cheap little 3 LED cable test device that you can check all your cable with just to be sure.
We use to have the assistant engineers check all the cables once a month or so.
