studio/recording blog roundup???
studio/recording blog roundup???
we've already got some tape-oppers keeping studio and project blogs, but would it be cool to keep a bigger list going, adding and including any of interest? basement studios and big names alike? i learn stuff every time i read them, and usually find them to be highly inspirational.
if y'all would be so kind as to link us up to any such blogs, i'll post them up here. i'll try to keep a running list of the interesting and current and update it as needed. i'm trying to stick with those sites that offer session photos or insightful content.

Good job updating the list Smitty. Massive. I'll try to wade through it on a day off sometime.
I have one coming in June.
It's a non-profit recording blog and compilation.
Every month it'll be a different artist, and a different song at a different studio, and at the end of 12 months there will be a compilation album available for download. Since we're only doing one song each day, and only doing it once per month, we should be able to maintain very high standards for the blog.
Proceeds go to a health-care based charity. Still working out the kinks. It takes a while to get 12 different good bands and 12 studios lined up and committed.
It should be cool! I'm really excited about it. I'll post again in this thread when we have the site up and running.
Edited the post because I'm running behind schedule. I didn't know the spring would be so booked up for me! Hopefully We'll officially launch the site in June.

Yeah...I love these blogs too. I remember when this thread was originally posted and I thought to myself...."cool, I'd love to see a roundup of these blogs to browse through"BikeSailboatGuitar wrote:I just found this one... would love to see some more posted.

Too bad not many got posted. If I had one to add, I'd do it. The blog you posted here was pretty nice, even if it was a little thin on the reading. That being said, the photograpy on the blog is outstanding. I've got a hunch someone that's in with the band may be a professional photographer.
I was actually laughing out loud at this bit of satire...

This one has a link to TapeOp, must be a member...
http://www.hometracked.com/
This one has a lot on microphones. You have to scroll to the bottom and click "previous posts" to see all the entries, but there are 78.

Short but good pictures of gear:
http://patternismovement.com/
This one is long, mostly off topic, but contains many gems about Imogen Heap's process. She actually mortgaged her flat in London and bought recording gear and a small space for a studio... then over the course of a year wrote, recorded, produced and mixed her album "Speak for Yourself." It starts way back in May of 2004 when she talks about mortgaging her flat.

I just recalled a great blog I once read by a TapeOp member. I don't know the moniker of this TapeOpper, but it's the guy with the band named, as I recall, The Doctor and Philip. He documented the recording process involving a remote gig in some large space. Just so happens that the music was great too.
If someone knows who this is, they could maybe give them a little shoulder nudge to post this blog...if it still exists online.

I've been trying to get Tapeoppers to check out my band/recording blog, with some success. It's not totally about recording, but most of it is, and we expect to put a lot of stuff up there this summer:
