At about 8am I rearranged what I call the "Wall of Amps" which is actually a few cabs and heads and 2 combo amps. Moved a drum kit over about 12 inches to make some space. Tuned my es-330. Fired up the G5 to listen to music while I worked. And then told myself I'll come back in later and do some tracking (its 8pm now)... not looking very good as I am sitting in my kitchen posting on tapeop....

Mixing a pop/Christian act. Melodically satisfying record...with all the usual Christian music caveats.

Noticing, as I churn other pop/Christian records in the CD changer for comparison, that about the time I start to feel nauseous, I know I have the level right on the mix.

Why does loud make me nauseous? Is that really how we want the listener to feel?

Demoed a piano and voice tune. Took the opportunity to mess around w/ different mic setups. Tried to chase down a weird routing anomaly with my 828 and our new Rosetta 200 (nice DA, btw). Gave up.

Did sound for a fundraiser at a semi-local private school. Performer was somebody you'd be very aware of if you had kids.

I hadn't heard of him either, but he was very nice, had a good band, and was very entertaining.

Nothing! It's a long week-end here in the north and I've decided to take a break from finishing up my own record.
I did spend a little time online looking for 1/2" tape for an upcoming project but most of the day was BBQ and wine.

Morning -- A cool album of covers including an English version of "Waters of March" which really brought me back to when I was a kid...

Afternoon -- My Road King -- Some saddlebag issues -- Fixed.

Early evening through now -- Classical - Tchaikovsky / Mozart / Tchaikovsky done by a bunch of rather talented kids (geez, I feel old - I could be a parent to any one of them).

But I still friggin' hate the popular part of the Romeo and Juliet theme...

Morning: Brunch with the 'Lil Lady

Afternoon: Recorded three new songs for Team Genius, a quirky pop band who have a self-recorded, quirky lofi EP out (which has been getting some good press). Keeper Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keys and Vocals.

Evening: Recorded one new song for D-Godd, formerly known as The Volunteers... a kind of straight-ahead debaucherous rock thingie. Keeper Bass and Drums... Maybe keeper Guitar too? It's meant to finish off a 14 song album which will be mastered by Paul Gold over at Salt within the week.

Late Evening: Went over first draft of a mix for a General Miggs song that was recorded at another studio almost a year ago. I'm trying to convince them to retrack a couple Bass and Guitar parts that lack "lock".

Now: Catching up on three days worth of emails and PMs.

Later: Sleeping.

Tracked some guitar overdubs that might actually make it to the record.

Tracked some random drum bits as I'm trying to build my playing skills in that department.

Took an extended break to grill some steaks and go see Iron Man

Twiddled with EQ and compression on said drum fumblings trying to set up a template in case I ever use that mic configuration again.

pondering sleep.

Sent some remixes to EMI for Alessi.

Surprised myself by liking the CAD M177 better than the Soundelux ELUX 251 on crotch microphone for the drummer.

My band worked through some new songs, two of them mine...the drummer didn't leave the room or pretend to fall asleep while we discussed chord changes and such...good productive day...
