Joel (and others), it's clear that you like the E602 "inside" the kick but how is it for jazz kits where the drum head is not removed or otherwise altered? In other words, for micing externally.

I typically favor back and fourth between a md421 and an e602. I have a beta 52, but between the e602, 421, and sometimes an re20, that thing has been collecting some dust. I have not been using an outside mic, but I just expanded my setup, and now have the inputs, so I cant wait to try!

It is a great mic. Sometimes with no hole, for that sound, I will put something like the FET47 in front of the resonant head, and the e602 under the kick on the floor tom side, doghoused, on a sand bag. That is a super secret trick I figured out a while back for getting real punch out of a closed kick... there you have it. Check out the sound on dub trio's "table rock dub" off of "new heavy."

Hey, anyone really know the difference between the 600 and 900 series???
I wanna buy some new stuff (clippy tom mics, new kick mics, a new snare mic, wanna get more of a wider palette) and was just curious if it is worth spending the xtra dough on a similar product.

Glad to see the 602 catching on. I've had one since they first came out and like Joel, stopped looking for anything else. It never disappoints, regardless of music style.

the first bass mic i bought was the e602 and ive tried others since then but eventually decided the 602 kills them all.. anytime i have mic'd a kick drum with no hole, i usually just build a tunnel with another bass drum with no heads on it.. that keeps the rest of the kit out of the mic.. or i will just convince the drummer to cut a hole in the head.

is there a surefire wire to tell the older version from the newer one? does it say "e602-II"? it looks like that in the photos, but I wanna be 100% sure!

i am borrowing a friends older version and like it so i wanna get the same older version.....have never seen the newer version in person and will probably try to find one on ebay...unless someone here has one up for grabs?
