ahahah gaff tape is what i'm using on the crappy onstage stands... and plumbers tape is what i'm using since the threads on one them doesn't "fit" any of my clips...

The Sabra stereo bar is a pain in the ass because there's no way to secure the angle of the mics

This is not true - at the base of each threaded rod is a threaded ring which can be used to secure the mic clip at whatever angle you wish. I have used the Sabra bar with Schoeps CMC64's for years to do XY or ORTF.

The cheaper OnStage small T-Bar works fine for the Octava's both in XY and ORTF.

You have to be sure that you have the friction between the ring and the clip tight enough to hold or else your mic's will move. It ain't the Schoeps bar, but you get what you pay for.

The key is using a thread adapter to get the height offset.

That's the thing. That "security ring" is at the bottom of the European threads. I guess you could use it if you have the thread adapters securely screwed inside the mic clips, but that's still a super pain in the ass if you ever have to use those clips on an American standard mic stand.

I'm trying to find one that actually works without the tape. my onstage T-bar is horrid.

Yes. Here's how it works:

Part that sits on T-bar= Euro thread with big ring-type bolt.
American threaded mic clip adapter sits on top of Euro thread with bolt below it.
Mic clip fits on top of that.

I suppose that whole situation would be less of a pain for me if I just got an extra pair of MC012 clips and glued the Euro adapters into them and used those clips for just that stereo bar. Still seems silly to me from a a design standpoint, but a lot of things do.

Do it the easy way-

Make your own.

Drill out a yardstick to fit on a mic stand.

Use a protractor to get the angles right (no pun intended).

These adapters also usually come with the mic's/mic clips/shockmounts.

are these "adapter" things the threaded thing that is stuck in one of my 421 clips? making me have to use that mic clip only on the piece of crap apex stand it came unthreaded from? hate that, cant figure out how to get it out...

yeah this it the thing stuck in the 421 cilip, MINUS the gnurled grippy edge... that would have stopped it from getting stuck in there..

wrap a bit of grip tape on a pair of needle-nose pliers and spread them inside for a grip and start turning?

might have to re-tape a few times.

Has anyone tried more expensive models such as:

-AEA Stereo Microphone Positioner

-B&K CXY4000

-any of the Schoeps stuff
