Those new "Classic Vibe" Squiers
Does anyone know anything about these other than what the Squier website and retailer's websites are saying? Are these of similar quality to an old vista series or 80's Squier? Where are they manufactured?
Here they are on the Squier site:

I particularly am loving the Duo-Sonic... it's obviously very close to a late 50's model and i'm doing ebay searches on '58 duo-sonics all the time. It's even got the gold pickguard!

Opinions?

They look cool. I'd want to play them before making any decision.
The "60's bass" is basswood. The "50's tele" is pine. I usually haven't liked basswood and I don't remember fender using pine for ANYTHING. Although I do have a Benedict's Groovemaster from '90 that is a spruce body (a fancy word for pine) and it sounds fantastic.

Check out my website for cool songs recorded and played by me with Steve Goulding of the Mekons on drums. Drums were recorded by our own Joel H at Studio G.

i called the local fender/squier dealers (guitar center and sam ash... sheesh) and of course they didn't have them in stock yet. the main point of interest for me is where they're made.
has anyone found any reviews of these online yet? does/did NAMM do some sort of review? if so, i can't find it.
basically i'm losing sleep over the fact that there's an affordable semi-replica of a 50's duo-sonic out there and it's not in my posession.

ok, as i usually tend to do, i made a thread then hunted the entire internet with much fervor looking for anything about these. apparently some of the guys over on the offset guitars forums already got their duo-sonics and really love them for the price:

+50 or so. Once I have the cashy-cash I'm going 100% Grover Locking Rotomatics. Got em on one axe and now I'm addicted.calaverasgrandes wrote:oboy "vintage" style tuners, for that "vintage" out of tune sound .
I'd yank those and replace em with those grover locking tuners that dont require a weird nut.

What a crock! All the models have those stupid a$$ worthless "C" shaped necks. What's vintage vibe about that? How about a real neck with some girth to it?! Jeez.
I don't mean to rain on this little love-fest but this is just the same crap they've been selling cheap for years accept these are made in china instead of mexico. Just one more series of guitars that will cost you $500+ in pickups and neck replacement to give it tolerable tone and feel.
anyway - LOL - that's how I really feel about it.
