It's interesting what albums get hyped around here, since the locals seem to have bigger ears than the norm (weird image).

Good stuff I heard about here:

STRING QUARTETS (The Shostakovich box set, the British one with a mug shot of the o.g. on the cover)

Bands I have been turned onto through TOMB are:

Battles - Holy crap this band is insane. Thanks to whoever mentioned them as they are now my favorite band.

Caribou - Wow, one of the coolest bedroom recording artists I've ever come across

Animal Collective - I should have already known who these guys were but I didn't until someone on here mentioned them.

Panda Bear - See above.

Feist - Cool, laid back stuff. Got to have some music that chicks dig, right?

Grinderman - It is always great to hear some great new, sweaty rock.

Broadcast - Man there is some wild stuff going on in the high end of these recordings. With my dog hearing I always appreciate that kind of stuff.

There are more but for now that is all I have on my ipod.

The latest is Book of Knots; just got Traineater, and it's amazing!

Also, Sparklehorse, Wilco (had heard 'em, but not bought anything since Being There; my fandom was re-kindled and I have since bought everything; the live record is my fave), Radiohead (had heard 'em, but not bought anything since OK, Computer; my fandom was re-kindled and I just bought Rainbow; it's terrific) ...

I don't really listen to anything new. For better or worse I pretty much listen to STAX, Mowtown, Chess, Sun, and Excello. Since I've been checkin' out the TOMB I've picked up Tom Petty's Wildflower, the White Stripes stuff, The Black Keys, and a couple of rare birds like the Beatles and Led Zepplin. Ok, so it's not like discovering the New World but I always hated British rock. The TOMB has taught me to appreciate the effort if nothing else.

I can't say "here" exactly but I have been turned onto Neutral Milk Hotel, Elliot Smith, and Idiot Flesh by the tapeop book. I'm sure there's a few others, that I'll be compelled to check out.

I used to be into indie stuff in the 80s and 90s, so I actually recognize a lot of people that have went from one thing to another, and I'm playing catchup or ... seeing the six degrees in motion.

A lot of the people are still doing the same things as before, but the world has gotten smaller and a lot of that stuff is now more accessible, which is almost like a highschool reuinion.

There are a ton of bands that I've "refound" but I'll just try to post the best.

Young Forever by Aberfeldy. The fact that it was recorded live around one mic gives it recording-geek appeal, but it's a really fun record even if you didn't know that. To whoever posted about it here a while back: thanks!
