If you look at my photo album, you will see mike preamps I have

built with Yamaha PM 1000 boards.

I have fair experience with older transistor circuits.

Last summer built four of these preamps that are being used

steady and all Tape-Op customers.

I have the transformers and parts to build one more unit


Here is a recent unit for a Reggae customer that is what it

would be, without the filter controls

It has a "shimmer" filter and a "Rasta" filter.

The Shimmer filter is a gentle high boost and the Rasta filter

is a smooth bass contour boost. Then one side is for

electric/acoustic guitar and the other for kick or bass guitar.

With the filters out, both channels are flat frequency respone

and matched sound.

I normally just have the DI in and both sides matched for gain

and sound character.

I re-cap the boards and do a few simple mods that give the gain
stages more power and big tone sound.


I have built ten of these units using the small cards off the

PM1000 cue or talkback modules taht have the same gain stage as

used in the main PM1000 Modules. I built four last summer for

some tape-op customers. I have the PM1000 input and output

transformers that would allow me to build one more stereo rack

preamp.

Without the EQ in the way, they make great clear, Phat,

smooth and quiet mike preamps.

I have the parts to build one more dual unit.

All of these units use a 48VDC Ault supply that plugs in the

back that is regulated and will take 90 to 24 VAC in.


I can build one more unit with fantastic smooth Tamura output

transformers for $400.00 with the front graphic plate and a Ault

48V+ Adapter that is regulated. this provides all power.

I take a 1/2 deposit, paypal, you have a reciept and tracking

through paypal. I can mail reciepts or whatever you need.

The Tamuri transformers are very smooth and musical.

If you have an interest in having the last unit,
I need your deposit of $200.00 and then I build the preamp.

I do all general business through PayPal, they provide reciepts

About three weeks max delivery.

These units make a great Phat Di for bass guitar.

Very warm tone sounding DI, real 60's sweet sound.

I can suit the controls and functions to your needs.

We have started making our transformerless transistor preamp

boards for DIYers so I have no need for these transformers.

These preamps are in a 16 by 8" Hammond box behind a 3-1/2" rack

plate with nice black finish.

Any comments, old parts, bricks or even kindly thoughts, let me

I bought a 2 channel PM1000 talkback pre from George and it friggin rocks. I have used it on just about every guitar track that I have recorded since I got it about 8 months ago. It seriously kills. I have Sytek's with BBs and this is just something completely different, but not sluggish. It is still really fast, but has totally different character than the Sytek.

Hey all,
Forums like TapeOp are usually a wonderful place to share, network, learn, and do business. In my years on this board, I have never been burned by anyone for the most part...until now that is. Take this not as a flame, but rather as a friendly warning. A guy named George Rigney (Tape Op handle #37glass) has sold a few units on this forum...usually custom pieces. While I respect that he has delivered some good work to a few people, I feel compelled to tell of my recent and on going experience in dealing with him. I was approached by him in March to build me a custom mastering EQ. To make a long story short, I sent him a few hundred dollars plus components to work with. He promised a three week turn around. Over three months later I have no EQ unit, he refuses to refund me, he refuses to send me pictures of my unit, and I have little to no cooperation and/or communication with him. Many may think him safe since he has a clean track record until now. Keep this in mind however...there's a first for everything. If this was the first in a string of cons by George, I simply couldn't sleep with myself at night knowing that I could have warned my fellow TapeOppers of this holy disaster calling himself the ""The Great ToneMaster . Best...JD!

Yep...he still owes me money and is now threatening to hold that money hostage if I don't first sign a legal contract for him agreeing to remove my TapeOp posts about him and stop trying to contact him about my money. Even after my exposing him on this forum, filing a claim against him on PayPal, constantly e-mailing him for my money, and getting a small claims suit against him lined up he still refuses to square up?lol! It takes a special kinda? person to strong arm a client into signing a contract that appeared out of nowhere just in order to get a refund that was both promised and is long overdue?an update for anyone still considering working with this guy. This is what you may have to look forward to if you never get your piece from him. God forbid a feature on the unit not work?prepare to take electronics classes and fix it yourself as I very seriously doubt that he would take care of the issue for you?lol! On a lighter note, Nate from the boards here is building me a gorgeous mastering EQ. This guy's work is second to none...a true pro! Pics to follow. JD!

I resent being called a troll jc. My posts aren't controversial, irrelevant, off topic, or disruptive in my eyes. Nor are they intended to stir an emotional response from anyone. I didn't get the memo that audio as a passion has to be a rich man's hobby. A few board members on this forum act as if money is no object and that I should simply count my losses, move on, and continue to watch this charlatan sweet talk money out of others. Hey man, I feel your pain. If I gave someone moneyf or a mix, a car, a mastering eq, or whatever and then did not receive the product, I would be very angry also. However, as a fan of the information found on TapeOp, I would say that your point has been made and recorded. Let's get back to the gear.

Jc...it is unfortunately sometimes very hard to relax when someone owes you a few hundred dollars, rent is due, and you constantly have strangers reminding you to relax. Seeabove...if you look you'll see that I simply responded to ipressrecord's post. Simply responded...and that was all. Didn't go out of my way at all to open up this old wound and in fact tried to shift negativity to positivity by singing the praises of a fellow poster and his remarkable building talents...hence forth getting back to gear.
