Pretty lame.
They're using large portions of my FAQ without permission. Lame-ola.

Perhaps. But now the impetus is on me? They can't be bothered to ask, so I have to be bothered to call them on it? Meh.

that's a bit like expecting a bike thief to come ask you permission to sell your bike after he's already stolen it.Mark Alan Miller wrote:Perhaps. But now the impetus is on me? They can't be bothered to ask, so I have to be bothered to call them on it? Meh.
i seriously doubt they're gonna come asking you for permission after the fact.

Agreed. What I meant was, that they didn't ask in the first place. Not that I would have said 'yes - use it all' - but I would have been flattered and would have said to please at least re-write it in their own words.
Cease-and-desist, it looks like, is something I'm gonna have to do. Bummer. I hate being all legal-like. I'd rather foster community in the recording community. Oh well.
Thanks, RefD.

If someone breaks in and steals some mics, are the cops and your insurance agent going to call themselves?
People doing bad stuff is a problem. On a lot of levels. I wish they'd stop too. All of them, not just the knobs who hijacked your FAQ.
Best of luck. Get 'em!

I'm all about community between studios and engineers, lending each other mics, helping move shit, all the friendly stuff....
But this place is lame, and seems like it was lame long before they stole your stuff. I doubt they'd ever do anything for you as a member of the community (just an assumption).
I can't figure out if that video makes me want to laugh or shudder in disgust. Though, it's condescending tone might be more directed at the studio owners, though, because obviously they don't know enough to be able to answer the types of questions that would be frequently asked. For one, 650 sq. ft., is not what I'd consider to be HUGE!!! Big? yes... Big enough for an entire orchestra?!? Hmmmm.....
My vote is for the cease and desist (obviously). :ar15:

I suggested a couple possible solutions for such a situation in this thread.

I might have, actually, depending on what they wanted to use.RedCrownStudios wrote:That is pretty lame, but if they had asked to borrow portions of it that they liked, would you have granted permission?
More likely though, I would have encouraged them to re-write it in their own words. I mean, come on, how hard can it be? And isn't that better serving their clients, to have it be from their own minds?
And if my answer had been no, would they have just taken it anyhow? Would that somehow change things?
Not saying you're implying that, but it does raise the question.
