Dammit! I was hoping it was the Madness "One Step Beyond" era. Less impactful, much cooler.AstroDan wrote:He totally meant the Reel Big Fish "Take On Me" era.superaction80 wrote:So, which ska revival were you referencing? There was another, smaller one about 5 years after the Madness one.superaction80 wrote:Dammit! I was hoping it was the Madness "One Step Beyond" era. According to my calendar we're due for another one.

Apparently it is still OK to use digital FX such as the Eventides and Lexicons in the credenza pictured in the link?
Digital: only OK if it's on an aux send.
I think going all-analog is cool, but don't make a big deal about it. Just do it. Stop blaring the trumpets in the temple already.
Also, the logo looks like a big donger to me.

"...it's analogous to... it's analogous... it's analog..."
She doesn't seem to know exactly what digital recording vs analog recording really is.
Like analog is an infinite window with no skewing of the source (it's not! there are only so many molecules going by the head per second! there are things like bias tone and EQ curves necessary simply to get a reasonably quiet and low-distortion signal!)
The ability to reproduce a waveform digitally isn't like playing back 'slices' - the output isn't 'stepped'. What kind of 'purity' she thinks she's actually getting is vague at best.
I know what she's getting at - and have no issues whatsoever with the concept - but man, she should really know what she's actually trying to say before she goes into an interview like that.
And overall, in many cases, I do agree with her objection to 'gridding' the music up. But mixing up quantizing and pitch correction and all that stuff into a 'philosophy' that also confusingly includes digital vs analog recording at the basic level is diffusing the argument, is diluting the whole point of what I think she's really after: performances vs. constructions.

That is funny as shit. "xerox of your values, its not a recording of your sound."
I hope she is talking about putting together loops and shit, not digital in general.
Its all Brian May's fault... but shes not sure what guitar processors he was talking about.
"what is carpal tunnel syndrome...."
You can't make shit like this up. Of course there will be sheep to follow any idea.

I dont think he started it:mobtownstudios wrote: Do you perhaps think that he started this coalition to get people talking? Regardless of what's better or what not.
electrical wrote:For what it's worth, Kim came up with everything about the "All Wave" idea herself, and as far as I know she is the only person to subscribe to it.
The only association I have with it is that I worked on a record where the idea was publicly articulated in the annotations.
I think it is an interesting set of parameters in any case.

So that couple-paragraph summary at this website http://breedersdigest.net/2008/behind-t ... recording/ was written by Albini? Or was it not? If so, he wrote about himself in the third person?
