Ceiling treatment over drum kit

I kinda went the other way above my kit. I mounted 2 3/4" 4'x8' pieces of cabinet grade birch plywood over my normal kit area. For "Budget" sessions I use a permantly mounted X/Y bracket, and Gaff some eggcrate foam directly above the mics as needed. For more involved sessions I move the foam around as needed, but I never really seem to use too much unless a super dry "Memphis" sound is called for, or when fighting poor drum technique. I figure you can always dry out the room, but it's harder to liven it up without using reverb. Anyone else a fan of the wood??

While we're on the subject, really, how audible of a difference do you get out of wood compared to drywall?

Speaking of wood, I have been thinking of making a heavy panel of wood with which to experiment. i, too, have been thinking about wood versus sheetrock.
I spent a week in a log cabin in Vermont and it sounded really warm. The inside wall were the unfinished, round logs - lots of warm, woody diffusion...

I think their might be a reason that fine instruments are made from wood as opposed to drywall or other man made stuff!! (excepting DanElectro guitars!!) Wood is IMHO MUCH better tonally than drywall. Drywall has that "Sheetrock Ping" in most cases, while wood reflects in a more appealing way. Some prefer slate, glass, or ceramic tile, but I find that a $45.00 4'x8' piece of birch ply is an attractive and sonically sound way to go.
