In general I would say Baritone or tenor in the lower registers. It's really more of a tonal issue though.joelkriske wrote:so what is the best vocal application for the mouse?
One well known example of a Mouse user is Jeff Tweedy of Wilco. If you watch the "I am Trying to Break Your Heart" DVD you can see him using it quite a bit. He tracks virtually all of his vocals through it.
You can also see the band using this mic on all kinds of instruments, including but not limited to: piano, drums, guitars, bass, and noise makers of all kinds.
Just thought I'd share that I just got my hands on a BLUE Robbie pre this weekend. It's really a great sounding preamp and I've been pleased so far. I've only tried the Mouse on vocals and a Fender Jazz Bass direct. Really big and crisp in the low end.
Anyway, just thought it could be relevant to the post.

Those are awesome and versatile preamps! I used to have one for auditioning tubes and it became a "go-to" mic preamp for quite a while. I sold it to get a Germanium which I am seriously regretting as the Germanium broke after two months and Chandler's trying to tell me nothing's wrong w/ it.AK Audio wrote:Just thought I'd share that I just got my hands on a BLUE Robbie pre this weekend. Blue used to have great customer service, back when Skipper answered the emails himself but my last couple experiences w/ their supporrt were downright insulting.
Blue Mics
I would second the BLUE Robbie, I've had one for about a year and 1/2, great preamp.
I've had a baby bottle for a few years, I think it's a great mic for the money, I just picked up the Woodpecker (active ribbon), Excellent!! very hot output for a ribbon very clean and smooth response. So far, haven't found anything it doesn't like, especially ac. guit. and female vocals

Blue
I think I read that the Mouse was intended as a broadcast mic, it is interesting to hear how much people like this mic
Thought to Canadians, I was just at steve's, all the blue mics are nicely priced. You can bet the next batch is going to be exoensive since the Canadian dollar has dropped. I picked up the baby bottle for 400. very nice little mic.

I got a Kickball from AMS and while it's definitely a 'color' mic I just don't know if I like it yet. On the plus setting, you can really get a ton of oomph from a kick drum and on the neutral setting bass guitar sounds great through larger cabs.
Haven't tried vocals on it yet but I'm thinking it would be ideal for any kid into the "cookie monster" school.
