Good pedals for weird effects?

I have a Schumann PLL, which is broken. Unfortunately it's the kind of thing where breaking makes it much less weird...

I can't believe the thing is still broken. argh.

Pigtronix EP-1 can do some funky stuff for fairly cheap if you buy used.

If you have money, E-H Hog or anything by Lovetone (defunct and hard to find) will make some crazy noises.

I dig the Alesis Modfx Bitrman. It's a strange and wonderful soundmaker.
They are pricey now though.

Every time I decide to check the Bitrman out for a sound, I loose the night to glorious noisemaking. The sounds you can get from it are endless.

i had a buddy that made the swami his "signature sound"...which to my mind was just god awful

but weird it is!

You should let us all know what name he records under so we can do everything we can to avoid ever hearing that! Thats a one trick pony and even that one trick is not all that useful.

Fuzzfactory's can make some very interesting sounds.. also a photo-theremin.. not a pedal, but it costs about as much as a boss pedal and can either astound everyone, or clear a room with one small turn of a knob. I have a mu-tron octave divider from the 70's that is also in that category

the Old Temecula DIY photo theramin design is like $8 worth of parts (if you don't buy them at Rat Shack) and is great fun with pedals and a guitar amp.

the schematic says 6 volts, but you can use a 9 volt battery without harming the components.

My favorite pedal for weird effects is interestingly an all passive device - the KROK

It opens up new dimensions of whatever is plugged into it, by using the feedback function.

I just got a Catalinbread Heliotrope, which is an amazing pedal. Hours and hours of fun it is. but also seems pretty damn useful.

Has anyone mentioned the Subdecay Noisebox? It's pretty cool, and can be controlled or totally untamed and over the top.
I've lately been loving a gated fuzzface clone into a Dr. Q pedal...squelchy on a neck pickup, and raw and aggressive on bridge pickups.

doctor q's are great. I have an original issue one I have used for the last 20 years. Rebuilt it in the late 80's or so.
They get that great kind of slight overdriven sound. Which makes them so much better than the squeeky clean DOD rip off.

Yeah, I have heard some guitar players say they don't like it because you can't really do polyphonic stuff on it but I love it for that reason. You can get some really cool glitchy sounds with it.

or instant garcia, I am told he used one.
I dont like either really as guitarists. I just like what it does on bass, synths etc.
