I thought the mic sounded very upfront and crisp when I tried it on your daddy's cooterhaw, with a balanced mid-range that really complemented the beef brisket we were reminiscing over.

In short, you're sold!

there's really only two things you can do - new transformer, and retension the ribbon.

i got one with the cinemag in it - and retensioned the ribbon myself - and I wish I had another one.

i use it on (in this order):

lead vocals
guitar cabinets
keys / organ
OH or GJ setup for drums

also a great MS mic.

to me, the TOMB ribbon is detailed, non sybillant, and clear at close to medium ranges. i have other mics that i enjoy for the 'ribbon in the room' feel.

i'm also never ashamed to cut 250 almost defacto when dealing with any ribbon for most cases.

I love it on trumpet. It can also be great outside a kick.

I'm really glad I have one because it works so well in those two situations, but I haven't liked it in any other situation (yet).

mid side with the 4047, or sometimes using it as a "mid" even though its figure 8 along with another figure 8 pattern, say a cad e300. Kinda blumien, kinda not, i guess.

with the inner screen removal, I like it on vocals. I actually left the silk filter in place, I figured it was good protection for the ribbons.

Before I removed the inner screen, I had good luck with it on some misc. percussion. Glockenspiel, sleighbells, etc. Not so much on overheads, but I'm going to blame that on the room more than the mics.
