Resolder 4 channels of an XLR snake for MIDI

Post by Rockum » Wed Apr 08, 2009 8:52 pm

I was wondering if there would be a problem with taking a snake like this...

Pulsar Snake

and replacing 4 of the xlr connectors with MIDI. Would this cause noise or other problems?

I've never had any trouble running MiDI alongside audio cables, but these have always been individually shielded. I'm not sure what would happen if they were sharing a shield.

The good news is that you don't have to rewire the thing. Why not just make XLR>MIDI adapter cables? Then you haven't done any permanent changes to your snake. You can try the MIDI thing, and if it doesn't work, you've still got a usable mic snake. And you'll be able to use it for mics and stuff when you don't need it for MIDI.

Midi does not travel great distances well. You can get drop after 20' or so.
