Recording related injuries

After sitting on a 1x12 speaker cabinet for 5 hours instead of a chair yesterday, I severely pinched a nerve in my lower back. I can't even walk, just sit up really straight or lay on the floor with a pillow under my knees.

Anyone else suffered any recording induced maladies? - Tinnitus, electrocution, heartbreak?

Perhaps this should really go in the gear thread about which mixing chair is the most ergonomically...

At my school there is a metal conduit....it is set in the wall where the snake cables go into the control room....and on that conduit there is a door...a door that doesn't close....and behind the console this door awaits all who dare bend down to connect cables....certain death awaits.

well...not certian death...but it sure hurts like heck! oddly enough my instructor got sliced on it and kep bugging maintenance to bend the metal so the door would close properly like they did to the other side.

tinnitus and heartbreak have been a part of every record ever made.

i have a adorably cute little danelectro amp that is actually an electrocution machine. i've learned my lesson, so now anytime i'm doing anything with that amp i make the interns hook everything up.

once whilst playing drums i went to catch a cymbal, somehow missed the 18'' object at eye level 2 feet in front of me, but did manage to get said object right underneath a fingernail. wow did that hurt.

I don't think tape was rolling, but one time, when we were kids my sister got her eye split open by a falling cymbal. Come to think of it, she always had the weirdest most unbelievable injuries.

When I was a kid I used to crack my knuckles open on the rim of my snare drum. I would have scabs on my knuckles, blood spatters on my drum heads and little bruises on my inner thighs where the butts of the sticks would hit. Crap, my technique must have been awful.

I know a guy who pissed blood after 8 hours playing Djimbe.

Do psychotic breaks count? Like, serious, hospitalizable ones?

No, she's alright (physically).

I was a kid, I can't quite remember the details. I know she went to the doctor and had stiches on her eyeball. She wore a patch over her eye for a while. She can see out of both eyes. I don't think the aqueous humour squirted out or anything. The eyeball's pretty tough apparently.

Once you get rid of your Ego, then it does not matter how bad a band plays anymore, or how bad anyone mis-arranges a song to death.

this injury is related to recording only in that i record at my place and we have a bathroom there. so one time like 5 years ago i made the mistake of cleaning said bathroom. this was a mistake because in the process of cleaning i managed to contract some crazy viral infection. this infection manifested itself in the following ways:
1. i spent the entire first sleepless night with a blistering fever, vacillating between uncontrollable shivering and pouring sweat. this was quite likely the worst i have ever felt.
2. i spent the entire next day with a blinding headache.
3. i awoke the next day actually feeling much much better, but the index finger on my right hand had swollen to twice its normal size and was all dark red and purple.

fortunately for me i work a day job in a hospital. one of the ladies here dragged me by the ear, mom-style, up to the emergency room, and one of the docs i work with got me an appt with another specialist here. the emergency room guy said "you need to take this expensive medicine" so i went to the pharmacy immediately and handed over several hundred dollars for a couple dozen giant horse pills. when i saw the specialist the next day he said "yeah you can stop taking that expensive medicine and just take the antibiotics."

D'OH.

in the end i turned out fine but apparently i would've been dead in two days had i not gotten some help.

anyway i am not interested in answering questions about what sort of unholy condition a bathroom would have to be in in order for it to give someone a life threatening virus, i relate this story only so others don't make the same mistake i did. be safe. let the interns clean the bathroom.

Just Saturday we were recording a practice & I went to choke a 19" crash & managed to split open my left index finger. Bled all over everything.

I don't know why, but that seems somehow strangely appropriate. What happened to the didj player?
