I don't have a bunch of experiance with different mics I've only owned about 8 or so different ones I bought a sm 58 becuase i thought it was an industry standard and I was able to pick up a ksm27 becausei was cheap on craigslist. Then I bought an old ev 627 off of ebay because it looks like one of the mics I seen freddy king use live on vocals on a video i saw him in I bought it souly on looks but it blew anything I've used away. they sound great on electric guitars and I'd assume on snare. after that I also bought a ev pl 9 and was blown away by that as well especialy on electric guitars and back ground vocals. you also have to consider I have limited experience with microphones but I've heard videos demoing the re10s and the ev627s and the ev627 seem to sound better than the re10s to my ears plus they look cool.

I agree. I recently realized though that the weird response curve on a 57 gives a snare more presence in a mix right off the bat. The m201 sounds a little more 'refined' on most snares. The 57 seems to make it jump out at you.kingtoad wrote:I find that the beyer m201 seems to do most everything that the sm57 does in a slightly more refined, hi-fi way.
