Is it the one above his right shoulder?

Yeah, I think the other mic is on the boom behind him, so it's probably above and in front of him.

or above his right shoulder inline with his right ear...which is a common place for a 2nd (or 3rd) mic on an acoustic player - gives you the "what they hear" sound.

I love that technique, one on the 12th fret (a little closer than what?s shown) and the over the shoulder mic. (Sometimes in Omni)

Neck Position - Red Type A w/R& cap > API > Lynx Aurora
Over the shoulder - Chameleon Labs TS-1(omni) > API > Lynx Aurora

Use it all the time.

some of those samples are terrible! Couldn't they get better players on some of those? if you are gonna do it, do it well!

what kind of panning is involved with the two mic's?

Most of the time I will combine to Mono in a dense mix, but when its in the foreground I'll hard pan them LR, and compress or even gate the Omni so it doesn?t pull the focus to one side to the other, or not if I want it to sound crazy roomy.

I have even tried Omni center, duplicate neck mic track and hard pan one left and one right with a little chorus then flip phase on one of the neck tracks. Very swirly, very cool.

Just because there are 2 or more mics doesn't mean it's a "stereo technique".

The way i intrepret the "stereo matched pair" thing is that the mics are a matched pair, not the technique, it jsut feels like the sound is coming mainly form the mic in front and the other is used as ambiance,
my thoughts tho..
