Has anyone got input on a REALISTIC CARDIO 33-989 microphone from about 1970? I know Realistic stuf was made for them by others or sometimes rebranded from name brand... I was curious becuase it looks like an old AkG D12 or a Sennheiser. Anyone ever used one or heard anything decent about them?
Thanks
Derrick

I've seen that mic re-badged "Norelco" (with a gold grill), and another brand that I can't recall right at the moment...
So-ooo, they did farm them out to other companies...
"Realistic" seems odd, though, especially in the 70's...

Yes, the one I'm looking at has gold grills. I'm trying to figure out if it is worth the haul to drive out and get it... anyone know?

Well, I had both the re-badged mics and a real D12, and the re-badged mics were definitely D12s, IMHO...
So-ooo, I'd go grab it if the price is right....

I've got one of the rebadged D12s-- echolette or Norelco, I forget which. It's a real D12. I also have the Realistic thing. It is not. Mine has a weird connector, and I haven't gotten around to actually using it, but it weighs a lot less than the D12. It's not a D12, it just looks like one. I got mine for 20 or 25 bucks or so... I doubt it's worth any more than that. If you pass on this one, there's nothing to regret. It might sound cool-- I don't know. But it's not going to sound like a D12, because the guts are going to be entirely different.

That's what I was afraid of and Oaktreeent.com says it has a tinny crystal element sound to it. Thanks!

we have a "working" one. if you want a distorted and ringy sound, then grab it.

i am big on 70's realistic mics and that one blows.
however, it is my main kick drum mic on one of my kits, only cause i have found a placement, tuning, and drastic EQ that makes itwork for me.
but its not a "good" mic.

If you get a d12 or d12e, make real sure it works. They haven't been made in years, getting one fixed now might be problematic . . .
btw, I have one and the low end is nice . . . but wasn't designed as a kick mic, so doesn't have the "built in eq" sound of some newer kick mics. You may end up using a second mic with it depending on the sound you want.

Got home last night from seeing the movie Pirate Radio, and this is exactly what the mics they used "on air" looked like, but they were on booms. I don't know a thing about these mics, I wonder if they have radio history or if that's a different but similar looking mic.
