Cassette 4-track w/ 4 outs/sends?
CassetteOp:
Anybody know of a 1-7/8" ips cassette 4-track unit that has separate
outputs for each track (effect sends or direct outs)?
Looking to transfer some old recordings over but there's just enough speed
variation in my motor/tapes to keep each individual track (or stereo pair)
from being aligned and I really don't want to mess with time-stretch ITB.
Gotta love the Porta02, but transferring OTB->ITB has been a bit of a fuss...
Thanks.

I have a Tascam 424 - the old, gray version. Not sure about the later models (like the MkIII) since I've never used those. But on the back of mine there are 4 RCA outs that you can set as track outputs. You can dump all 4 tracks into a digital medium at once, which I've done on several occasions and it works great. Good luck.

I have this issue with my Portastudio 464. I don't think mine has the outputs that I can set as 4 separate track outs. I'll have to check when I'm home as I don't know by heart what's on the back panel, and the manual is pretty much non-existent online unless you pay for it. Direct outs would be incredible, I'm even thinking if I could mod it somehow that'd be great. I need to figure out a way to get that thing to work for transferring to digital better or else I'm in the same boat looking for something that'll do it better for that workflow.

same here. dump stuff from my old 424 all the time. If I remember correctly there is a switch by the RCA outs that makes them 4 outputs, or a stereo mix and 2 sends.lyman wrote:I have a Tascam 424 - the old, gray version. Porta's
Porta02 and Porta03 (both models' 1st versions) only have L/R RCA outs.CraigS63 wrote:Even my 1985-ish Porta One has 4 outputs, but maybe they got
skimpy on the features with the later models. You are saying the Porta Two
doesn't have direct outs? Or does it only do the double-speed playback?
Both run at 1 7/8 ips tape speed which is "normal" if memory serves.
Apparently, I am now in the market for another 4-track deck...
Cheers!

Wow, to no one's surprise I may be an idiot. My 464 has 4 rca jacks labelled "Tape Out", with 1, 2, 3, 4. I can only assume these are direct outs, durr! Now to dump them to cubase via my Firestudio Project I'll just have to take two stereo RCA cables and make it into 4 individual RCA to TS cables (or get 4 little adaptors) right?

I just used 4 little rca-ts adapters and used regular ts cables into my 003's analog in's with the inputs switched to -10. Seemed to work pretty good for me.jgimbel wrote:Wow, to no one's surprise I may be an idiot. My 464 has 4 rca jacks labelled "Tape Out", with 1, 2, 3, 4.
