Let's talk Hotel California.
Just learned that Felder used a 59 Paul for most of his stuff on this album.
So, naturally, I want to know more. Anything and everything about the recording, equipment, instruments, song facts, anything.
Anyone know which guitar was used for "Fast Lane" - Tele or Strat?
Is the song about Lindsey Buckingham & Stevie?
Glen Fry guitars?
Don Henley's afro-hair-care products?

Re: Let's talk Hotel California.
I remember a story about Felder needing someone to play the demo tape to him over the telephone when he was in the studio and couldn't remember how he played it. Not 100% sure of the details of that story.bradjacob wrote:Just learned that Felder used a 59 Paul for most of his stuff on this album.

I love this album, great songs, great sounds, great singing, and great playing.
Don't know a damn thing about it, but I've always loved it.
I heard a story once that Henley wasn't thrilled with one of Walsh's guitar parts and he told Joe he wanted him to take a few more swipes at it. Joe, who thought the part was fine said he would give it a few more tries, but he wanted everybody out of the control room/studio while he did the additional takes.
Once everybody else was in the lounge, Joe had the engineer pipe his existing take out to the studio and control room speakers. They played the existing take 4 or 5 times. Henley finally came in from the lounge, (he could hear the guitar through the walls) and said, "that's the one, that's a keeper".
Don't know if it's true or not, but it always made me smile.

I just read somewhere (GQ mag's 25 Hot Rock Gurrls, mebbe) that "Life in the Fast Lane" was written about Lindsey Buckingham & Stevie.
Not, BTW, that I'm in the habit of reading GQ; it was linked in a article (linked here at TOMB?) about something Albini said about the future of music, radio, vinyl, etc. ...

Just a side note: I kinda prefer "The Long Run." Not sure why.

Joe Walsh is the best. You know he's got something going on when every other guitar player cites him as their favorite guitar player. All the good playing on Hotel California is his.E-money wrote:Once everybody else was in the lounge, Joe had the engineer pipe his existing take out to the studio and control room speakers. I love Joe Walsh, I actually like quite a bit of his solo stuff better than most of the Eagles' stuff, but I think you're selling Don Felder a little short here. Don is a smoking guitar player and according to Walsh, every bit his equal at least.Joe Walsh is the best.
