Where to sell a fairly rare synth??? (Casio CZ-1)

I have a Casio CZ-1 in excellent condition that I'm trying to get top dollar out of as it is a fairly rare and sought after synth. Any suggestions for good synth forums or something?

eBay is the best place to sell rare stuff, IMO. If you don't want to do eBay, you could try http://www.vintagesynth.com. They have a good synth classified section. Gearslutz.com might be a good place as well.

Yes it is. They have become VERY hard to find apparently.

Eh? I don't see why...isn't it more or less a cz101 with big keys? There is no shortage of those on eBay...and while not a bad synth for the money I don't think these are worth more than a couple hundred at most. I wouldn't sit around expecting anyone to offer big money for it. Not to poop on your parade but I think calling them very hard to find might be a stretch...

The CZ-1 has the guts of a CZ-101 with a real, touch-sensitive keyboard. It's heavy. I had a 101 for 20 years until the batteries leaked and ruined it but you can get the darnedest sounds out of it. I use my CZ-1 as a controller for a rackmount synth/sampler and if I need weird or funny sounds, I use its built-in engine. It plays great and I'll be stoked if it's actually worth something. Keep us posted please, WJ!

I had a great little entertainment unit as a child, about the size of a box that might hold a basketball... it was some kind of "you are in the cockpit of a fighter jet airplane" and had this illuminated screen that showed you trolling over the countryside, and when you launched the missiles, they actually soared out over the living room carpet... and naturally the batteries leaked and it quit working, and I gave up my dreams of aviation glory...

But in subsequent years, I wondered... did the batteries leaking their brown goo all over the contacts really "ruin" it? For a seven-year-old without much in the way of soldering skills, maybe... but does the goo really damage anything? Electronically? If a body were to clean it off, and install fresh batteries... would it have lived to fly again?

It's obviously too late for me, but for any seven-year-olds on this board, I ask-- wouldn't it be a fairly simple repair? Anyone know?

A quick search shows there's not one for sale on eBay or craigslist (according to allofcraigslist.com) so this is probably the ideal time for you to put it up for sale. Put it on eBay and offer to ship internationally (a pain but you'll get better bids).

its kind of a pain in the ass to repair damage from battery leakage. Usually it eats through the thin copper traces on the circuit board.

If you want to fix it, you should start by testing every trace on the circuit board point to point with a multimeter. If there is no continuity, or high resistance you should remove the trace and replace it with a small piece of wire. If the acid has touched components on the board, you may need to replace those as well.
